| reply to sonofjay Re: [NFL] Browns WR Stallworth hits, kills Fla. pedestrian
You could be right. But I don't think a conviction is quite that certain.
If a driver's sober and someone runs out in front of him, not giving him any chance to stop before he hits him, it's usually the pedestrian's fault. I'm not sure the responsibility falls any differently if the driver's drunk. He's DWI, but not necessarily the cause of the accident. You or I would likely be convicted of course, since we don't have the money to pay attorneys and forensics experts to put in hundreds of hours. But we wouldn't have the money to give the victim's family either.
I'm not saying that's the way it happened. But for such a pitifully short sentence there had to be some powerful reason to settle for it. |

1 edit | I would normally crap all over the NFL for its uptight ways but, in this case, the NFL seems to be the only one who hasn't looked past that a human being was killed.
Let the circus begin. The lawsuits from everyone. Stallworth's lawyers claiming the NFL doesn't have the right. The NFLPA interjecting it's angle. The media quizzing the victims family what they think about Stallworth not being able to play. Not to mention the question on whether Stallworth was banking on any of his $11 million signing bonus, due to him already, for buying his freedom from the victims family? Will we soon see Stallworth filling bankruptcy claiming no funds and "the lawyers took it all"?
I have a feeling the tale of this story is just getting started. Perhaps now the details of the "deal" with the DA Stallworth got will find its way out. -- Mission Accomplished |

| reply to Beachie said by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell : The conduct reflected in your guilty plea resulted in the tragic loss of life and was inexcusable. While the criminal justice system has determined the legal consequences of this incident, it is my responsibility as NFL Commissioner to determine appropriate league discipline for your actions, which have caused irreparable harm to the victim and his family, your club, your fellow players and the NFL.
I guess they didn't quote the part where Goodell says: "...good riddance you sorry sack of shit" |

| reply to Beachie From that article: quote: The suspension is effective immediately, but Goodell still plans to schedule a meeting with Stallworth to determine the length of the suspension.
It's unlikely a permanent suspension. My guess would be that Goodell will settle on a year. However, overlooked in this thread (I believe) is that Stallworth has to serve 2 years of house arrest after he's out of prison. So perhaps that'll prevent him from playing even if the suspension ends. |

fatness subtle Janitor join:2000-11-17 fishing | Well he'd have to live near work, get clearance for certain days and hours at work, etc., and that might be pretty difficult. I think Cleveland will cut him. |

You were praising him like he was the next Jerry Rice. Once he was gone from your Eagles you basically say he sucks. Homer much? He was really good on our team I wanted him over a Reggie Brown(who will probably be cut) Shit, I'd still take Donte over Reggie Brown...(and when did I ever compare him to jerry rice? LOL I never once said Stallworth is a top 10 or top 15 WR in the NFL... I said he was a #1 which he is when he's not injured and killing people - but I guess saying someones a #1 WR is comparing them to Rice =/)
And now I'm saying he sucks? when did I ever say that? I'm talking about him being a criminal and how the cowboys love their criminals... but okay I forgot I "implied" he was the next jerry rice and soon he'll be starring in the newest porno with Jenna Jamison...
And you never know if the Cowboys will want him or not... They did trade for Pacman Jones and they have the worst QB in the NFC East in Tony 'fatass' Romo -- "I done wrassled with an alligator, I done tussled with a whale, only Last week I murdered a rock, Injured a stone, hospitalized a brick, I'm so mean I make medicine sick!!"-Ali |
