eddyr join:2002-10-30 Aptos, CA | Earthlink DSL down (831) 15Mar09 Earthlink DSL went down (DSL sync but no PPoE) some time pm on 14Mar09 in area code 831. How can one track progress? Earthlink does not answer the phone! Nothing on their website and cannot connect through this BBY browser to chat...
Any advice? Eddy at TheRobinsons dot com |

 | Its out in 415 AC as well. The "techs" on the phone say its a server problem. Their engineers are working on it blah blah blah. I noticed the outage around 1700 3/14. Elink csr service really sucks |

eddyr join:2002-10-30 Aptos, CA | Joe,
Thanks! Yours is the first actual information... How did you get a real person - all I get (after wading through the system) is a message that they aren't going to answer and "click", end of call.
Service here dropped about the same time. I am amazed there is no mention of the issue on earthlink.net - at least not in a part that is BBY accessible - perhaps I should have gone for the IPhone, after all.
Please, if anyone else has status of this, post it so that others in my situation can have the info.
I really appreciate your response, Joe! |

 | Has been down in Chicago (area code 312) all day today as well. This is the longest outage I remember in a long while. Surprised to see that it seems to be widespread. |

 | reply to eddyr I have spoken to tech support three times and each I'm told it will be up in a "couple" of hours. I'm starting to think something bigger is going on between ATT and Earthlink cuz this large outage makes no sense |
|
 | reply to eddyr Oh my, it's a big thing isn't it? I was on with online chat support (on my husband's laptop) for over an HOUR explaing over and over and asking if there was an outage, and doing everything but standing on my head when finally I was told there was indeed an outage and it would be on again soon. It's been about 24 hours, and when I did o/l support again this morning, I was only told that it was again an outage and it would be on asap. I rarely have issue with earthlink, but I was working and then nothing. At least I can get used to the laptop, I guess, but all my info is on my computer *sigh* I hope it's up soon, but I cannot help but wonder why it isn't posted |

 | Oh, and I'm in the 408, btw |

ska @sbcglobal.net | reply to eddyr I just hung up with tech support. They said it is affecting the whole state of california (apparently it is more than ca), and... ready?? They said it will take a while... yesterday I was told that it would take about 12 hours. It's been 24 hours already and it will still take a while...
Back to dial-up for now, until I shop for a better ISP. I am in 408 area code too. |

 | reply to eddyr I spoke with tech support a number of times. They are clueless. 26 hours downtime and still no resolution in sight. |

eddyr join:2002-10-30 Aptos, CA | Thanks again to everyone who is posting. I have tried several times to call Earthlink but they just have a recording saying there's an outage (You think...?) and they'll be hanging up now! That and no information on their website (which I can at least get to over AT&T on my BBY) has me pulling out the mailers I get every week to go over to AT&T DSL. Seriously, they can't be any worse.
Intrrnet withdrawal symptoms are reaching the whole family now.
Thanks for the updates - I still don't know how you guys are getting through to a real person, even though they know nothing (perhaps they are in India?). |

 | reply to eddyr Elink csr service really really sucks. If what I am reading is correct then CA as well as Chicago is affected. That would imply some sort of major outage as in fiber or cable cut but that is a guess. I got luck early on when I talked to a "tech" . They seem to want to try and hide or minimize the problem. They don't put up any info on their site. I have had multiple day outages in the past, but this is the first in 2 years. Next stop is corporate. Don't know what that will get me but it beats the buffoons on the bottom of the chain

 | reply to eddyr The tech support is in India, and they are just reading a status thing they have on their screens. The story has transformed from being a "server" problem, a problem with my "central office," a problem with AT&T, and each time, the same response: "it will be fixed in two hours."
I've called five times. This is horrible. I run my web design business from my home office and getting cut off like this for this amount of time is inexcusable. |

 | reply to eddyr MY DSL DOWN TOO. EARTHLINK TOLD ME IT WOOD BE BACK IN TWO HOURS BUT THAT WAS YESTERDAY. I CALL SECOND TIME BUT CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THE INDIA MAN SAY TO ME. SHOULD I CALL ATT?
THANKS, PORKRIND |
|
 | reply to Cofdropp I know they are in India. Elink is paying the price for outsourcing. I am in live chat now with them |
|
 | JOE, WHAT DO THEY SAY TO YOU?
THANKS, PORKRIND
PS SORRY FOR CAPS I AM USING CELL PHONE FOR THIS |

 | Joe Doggs: whats the story this time about your California outage? I am getting info at least the state of California is affected.
Jewel A: I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you.
Joe Doggs: I know you apoligize and thank you but what is the cause. The area is so wide spread it sounds like a fiber cut
Joe Doggs: If this is so please say. There is no shame in admitting a large problem at least customers will get a idea and not think you are trying to be evasive
Joe Doggs: Hello Anyone there?
Thats the end of it. A whole lot of nothing. She disappeared Oh well
Corporate is closed on the weekend but here is their info Earthlink Inc 1375 Peachtree Street Atlanta Georgia 30309 Phone 404-815-0770 Fax 404-815-8805 |

 | JoeDoggs,
I spoke (yes on the phone) to a tech who admitted that the problem is affecting the entire state of California and that AT&T is out doing repairs. He refused to say more, but my take on this is that we are dealing with cut fiber. |
|
eddyr join:2002-10-30 Aptos, CA | I agree, sounds like infrastructure if AT&T is really out on the fix. I saw a response chart from yesterday that showed a ping spike followed by an un-ending 100% packet-loss state on the West coast. |
|
 | reply to TroutHat Thanks. This is the best info I have heard so far. At least we don't seem to be in the dark anymore. I know those effect wide areas and take a along time. If Elnk would have just said this initially it would have saved a lot of frustration and ill will toward Elink csr service. Now I guess we just wait, some more. |
|
 | reply to eddyr But why is only Earthlink affected? Would a fiber cut not affect all ISP's? |
