Re: [Preview] NAizer for CYT

I still have the Innomedia from SR days.
I got it unlocked, but have no need for it and would be glad to donate it to the cause, if you need it..

Okay, for those who, like me, were ignorant of what the heck "CYT" meant:

Device Unlock FAQ:

1) Which adapters are CYT Devices?

CYT devices are VoIP adapters that use the TI AR7 chipset.
Here are a few of the CYT adapters:

- Linksys WRTP54G - 2 phone ports, 4 port router, wireless
- Linksys RTP300 - 2 phone ports, 4 port router
- Linksys RTP200
- Linksys PAP2 v2.0 - 2 phone ports
- Vtech IP8100 - Cordless SIP phone with base
- Motorola VT2442 - 2 phone ports, 4 port router
- D-Link VTA-VR - 2 phone ports
- Linksys WAG54GP2 - 2 phone ports, DSL router

That was in 2006. So that leads to two questions:

1. What other models qualify? PAP2T-NA? Innomedia? Grandstream?

2. How does this program differ from, complement, or compete with the OP's private unlocking services?

Thanks to all who have offered to guinea-pig their adapters and participate in the planned beta test. I will make an announcement here, when the time comes. At least at an initial phase, I'm going to limit participation to those who have, or have access to, a J-TAG device with which to recover their adapters, should my program for any reason malfunction and render their adapter unbootable.

Although I believe to have already ironed out any such potential issues, it's never wise to challenge the good will of good ole' uncle Murphy. I do not want to risk permanently damaging anyone's equipment. Once I'm satisfied about the program's reliability, I'll add a few more general participants.

I like to be a tester, and willing to donate one or two Vtech 8100 for the project.
Thanks for your very generous offer. It's very much appreciated. I don't expect to need any, but should the need arise, I'll let you know. Again, thanks.

Thanks for your very generous offer, too. It's also very much appreciated. I've never seen an Innomedia, but to, the best of my knowledge, I believe it not to be a CYT device, or even Linux/MIPS based, so it would not be applicable to this particular project. I could be wrong, though, so if anyone knows better, feel free to correct me. Nevertheless, thanks alot for your kind consideration.

Okay, for those who, like me, were ignorant of what the heck "CYT" meant:
CYT is short for CyberTAN Inc, the company apparently behind the Web interface in the devices in your quoted list. That list is pretty much it, except I've never heard of an RTP200 (not that it doesn't exist, though; I'm just not aware of it). CYT has become the defacto classifying term for any ATA based on TI's AR7 chipset (based on a MIPS R4K processor), running Linux.

1. What other models qualify? PAP2T-NA? Innomedia? Grandstream?
Besides the CYT models in the list quoted, I may also support a few other Linux/MIPS based devices, including the WRTP54G-ST (a version of the WRTP54G made for Sprint), WRT54G-TM and WRTU54G-TM. The PAP2T is not a CYT device, does not run Linux, and is not based on a MIPS processor. It will not be supported by this project. I'm not familiar with the architecture of the Innomedias and Grandstreams, but to the best of my knowledge, they are not Linux/MIPS devices either, so no support there.

2. How does this program differ from, complement, or compete with the OP's private unlocking services?
I don't and never have offered unlocking of CYT devices. People have often asked for it, but I've always turned away all such requests. I do not offer solutions not 100% developed by me. NAizer™ for CYT will be my first entry into the CYT arena, and for the time being is planned as a standalone program--not a service.

Thanks for the reply! I thought for sure the PAP2 listed would have overlapped with your service, but I guess not...

I'm putting together a serial cable at the moment to mess around with these ATAs. I see that JTAG is an alternative to using serial cables, and it can probably do more in terms of debugging the device. Is a serial cable enough to bring a device back from the dead? Maybe the answer is device dependent?

Not fully. A serial cable still depends on the boot code of the device being ok. If only the firmware images are corrupt, but not the boot code, you can recover the device by way of the serial cable. However, if the boot code is bad, there's no recourse other than using JTAG or physically removing, reprogramming, and reinstalling the flash chip.

Also, if the boot code is good but doesn't have the console_state set to "unlocked", the serial cable is pretty useless.
If I remember correctly, only the D-Link VTA comes with the console unlocked from the factory.

Best of luck in this! It looks very promising so far, and I look forward to the opportunity to see it in action. When the time rolls around, you can count me in on the list of those ready to test and provide results.

Someone on BBR keeps posting that you'll unlock RT31P2 devices and PAP2 devices for good (even after factory reset)...which from what I understand is impossible without replacing a ROM chip. If you can confirm they're full of it, that would be appreciated.

How is your development of the CYT utility progressing if at all? It's been quite a few months since your last post.
