 | Download Caps? I've been fairly happy with my current ISP (Clear Picture/Massillon Cable) until today, when I discovered that they're implementing a 20 GB monthly download cap. I'm trying to avoid the larger telcos (which either have caps themselves or poor service) and noticed that Armstrong is in my area, so I was wondering if there are any download caps to Armstrong's service or if it's unlimited.
I've already noticed (according to other posters) that all ports are closed. That's unfortunate, but at this point I'd take that over receiving extra charges every month for actually using my bandwidth. Thanks! |

| Ports 1024 and below are closed, you need business class to get them open. As of now, no caps with their service at all. It's even advertised on their website as "unlimited" internet access. I run an internet radio station at 128kbps and so far, knock on wood, no issues. -- Check our my internet radio stations: »www.thebomb102.com, featuring new music and hits of the millennium, powered by FTTH! |

 | Actually, certain ports are blocked for security reasons. The rest of the ports are left open. If your modem is broadcasting excessive amounts of data, than your modem will just be shut off temporarily. It's in the ToS. So, 128kbps is NOT enough to raise an eyebrow at. Max out your upload limit all day....and you might see some action . |

I send a stream to Live365 and they relay it out to x amount of listeners. It would be absolutely impossible for a hobbyist to run an internet radio station soley on their upload speed from a residential service.
It doesn't matter if I have 1 or 1,000 listeners, I will always only be using 128kbps/500kbps. -- Check our my internet radio station: »www.thebomb102.com, featuring new music and hits of the millennium, powered by FTTH! |
