Re: Major Attack April Fools Day--Conficker "C" Worm Meh... over 1 in the morning and nothing going on oh well... you know what? I think this whole thing was just to get the major news outlets to say the word conficker on national tv lol. After reading the wiki page for it the word appears to be german slang for an expletive mixed with the word configure hehe
Of course if it is something bad then my phone will be ringing off the hook today and the next day full of people wanting me to fix their crappy computers. Yesterday worst buy was trying to get people in the door with a free analysis and cleanup with windows updates because of this mess. Since doing all that will take some time, the user is stuck waiting in worst buy and might feel inclined to buy something. The only thing this worst buy stunt does for me is generate the same question over and over again "if worst buy does it for free why don't you?" I hate that lol. |

 | reply to art22gg Much ado about nothing. I see about 10 PCs a day in my lab infected with either Vundo or Conficker or both. The garbage "security" packages that Verizon and Comcast AKA Mcaffe are distributing are worthless against either threat. Real A/V programs including AVG free have already taken counter measures against these threats. Stop stealing music and videos VIA Limewire and the like since it looks like the most common vector for both AFAIK. As I already have mentioned, It seems like anyone who has the slightest grasp of Internet security is already locked down against this threat. Meanwhile these infections are putting food on my table. Business is very good. |

Lawrence Baldwin, the chief forensics officer with mynetwatchman.com, an Internet security site based in Atlanta, said the motivations of Conficker.c designers appear to be different from the those who designed previous worms, which infected millions of computers but had little impact.
"Three or four or five years ago, they were plainly trying to prove how smart they were," he said. Now, he said, the designers' motivation appears to be financial. "They can make serious amounts of cash with a variety of means."
Still, he predicted, any damage will be limited. "I don't suspect that we're going to have any kind of global meltdown as a result of this thing. I think what we'll see is that the purpose and intent of Conflicker is to deploy a whole plethora of secondary malware -- spam, Trojans, key loggers, distributed denial-of-service attacks, adware, etcetera, etcetera. Basically, all the things that the criminal can make money with." [Emphasis added]. |

kcazzieOne Of Jerry's KidsPremium join:2000-08-13 Morton Grove, IL | reply to art22gg I have a small network (5 total) 3work stations-2XP and 1 Vista 32 --- 2 laptops 1 vista and 1 Mac... All PCs/Mac updated really well except the Vista Laptop, it's at sleep or off at night so it may have been not as up to date as as the rest but not bad...
Today on Vista LTop NIS 2009 (FW/PW were not right) I had to reinstall (now/fixed), I found whenever you have a problem with with NIS '09 just uninstall and reinstall, takes 5 minutes) and Windows Defender had issues but work it self out... Just weird stuff that I usually don't see...
Still have an issue with User Accounts on the Ltop but that started a few days ago ... I have a go around that has everything working right now but still not how it should be... The laptop would wouldn't stop at the sign-in page, it would just go to the account I use most... Not good for a laptop that's in the public like a Hotel etc., you need to have it password protected... Today it first open again without asking for PW... Rebooted and it open to an account I thought was mine but the PW didn't work... Turns out there are two accounts with my user name... One had my PW but the other one didn't and still don't know what it is... It uses the same ICON it's in the users account while other is in the Admin account... have no idea how to fix this... But I will figure it out... It's just a funny day for this to happen, most likely just a coincident or not!!!... |
