| reply to cyloria Re: live chat support online and interleaving
I do arenas semi-seriously (2450 3v3 rating last season) so I understand what you mean, but you can't use the WoW meter as a guide. The WoW meter depends on a ton of factors, including a significant amount of server-side latency.
Do a traceroute to: us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
I see around 65ms to us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com, but over 200ms most of the time in-game.
I didn't see any better latency on Comcast. I actually ditched Comcast because of the random latency spikes due to modem channel changes and congestion.

I talked to a tech he said 200 MS is good. me being a gamer knows that is not true. I do fear having unstable connection and dc'ing also, but at the same time my gaming performance needs to increase fast. I have allready started looking into other internet providers. Although i have been with qwest for 11 years and don't really want to change. my area code is 80538 |

| reply to hurley1904 Online chat can remove interleaving which is about 20 to 30 ms. Just say you need it removed I never even gave a reason.
Post a couple traceroutes to the servers you are using as 150 -180 sounds high even with interleaving. Either they are far away or some odd routing going on. |

Tech Kathie > I apologize for the issue you are having. That is something I can help you with and I'll attempt to get this resolved for you as quickly as possible. Give me just a few moments to look up the account and gather all the information I need. While you are waiting may I have your e-mail address so you could rate our performance if asked?
Josh > ******@hotmail.com
Tech Kathie > Why did you want interleaving turned off?
Josh > adds too much latency in online gaming.
Tech Kathie > There is an Interleaving function that is added to your line as an error correction method to increase the overall stability of your service. We can test removing that error correction step from your line and see if that helps with any issues you may be having. If that change decreases the stability, our engineering team will need to turn it back on again, but we can give it a try. It takes about a week to process that request. Should I proceed with that request?
Josh > yes that sounds good. i would like to try.
Tech Kathie > Ok, I will send the request in. We can send an email when it has been completed
Josh > that would be great. thank you so much.
Tech Kathie > Is there anything else I can assist you with today such as setting up additional computers or email addresses, wireless connectivity, adding security software, or static ips?
Josh > nope you've been a big help. thanks for your time today.

 Here's W/o Interleaving : ) |
So it seems that it just cuts a consistent rate of 15 ms off of people's ping times and I thought it was going to be a percentage, but I guess a consistent time makes plenty of sense.
15 ms is a pretty good percent of what I was getting, but when compared to pings around 100 - 150, it's not much lol (still a good percent... but yeah..). I was hoping it'd cut those in half, but that's not a reality.
for people that get like 30-45 ping and they get 15 ms knocked off that's a pretty good percentage there for them.
What's jttr? |

 B4 Interleaving |
I had a chat with them and they said that a tech would be out here Friday on their normal routine to see if our line could handle it, so hoping for the best tomorrow : )
But really excited that while they are also out here they will be switching us over to 7 mbps w00t
This is better than Christmas for me
You guys cry about pings like 40 and I have never seen 40 in my life : ((
I'm glad to see google coming out @ around 70 for me right now, but the main thing that matters is gaming : ) And for gaming right now, to end up on a 70 server would be near impossible, I normally settle with 90-150 anything above 150 i wont play, but anything near 150 is cutting it... Cant wait though to see faster pings and hopefully this will attract way more people to my FPS server I'm running.
Also btw @ the person that said they need it for streaming... why would you ever need good ping for streaming?
Oh yeah, they also asked the reason why I wanted to do this,
said by Qwest Tech :
CTS_AE > I was also wondering if you knew anything about interleaving ?
Hidden Tech > yes we do that

CTS_AE > I of course don't have it on right now with the speed tests
CTS_AE > but are there down sides to having interleaving turned off? and if so what are they?
Hidden Tech > not that I know off, helps with pings
Hidden Tech > of
CTS_AE > and can I turn interleaving off/on or do you guys have to do that
Hidden Tech > not at this time I do not think they do
CTS_AE > because I would like to try having it turned off
CTS_AE > and see what differences I get in ping latency
Hidden Tech > checking if we really can

CTS_AE > Please do : )
Hidden Tech > and what explanation shall I give for this wanting to happen
CTS_AE > Runs First Person Shooter Server, also FPS gamer, ping matters. Also pings best @ 68 - 150, 150 is not acceptable

1 edit | reply to hurley1904 I talked to the Live Chat support today, and was told that Qwest policy changed once again. He says that they no longer allow interleaving to be disabled. The tech I talked to was Craig and employee ID was CR2.
I wrote an email to his supervisor, explaining how important it is to allow customers to disable interleaving. With interleaving on, DSL just does not compare to cable when they are both available over quality lines.
If Qwest policy will not allow interleaving to be removed, then they lost a customer.
EDIT: UPDATE: >> The Live Chat manager forwarded my email explaining my reasons for wanting fast path to engineering. Less than 12 hours after writing my email to the manager, my interleaving was turned off. This resulted in a 30ms lower ping at the same bandwidth I'd been provisioned and using.
It is still possible to have interleave removed, but the overall company policy is to deny requests as of the time I write this. |

| reply to fart_plume I was warned that any equipment work on the neighborhood lines or DSLAM would result in interleave being automatically restored, as the techs have no way of knowing which lines are using it and which are not. You might just try through Live Chat again...I doubt it was done on purpose. Thx for the heads up on that. I forwarded an email. Here is to hoping I have it returned to fastpath. |

| reply to Bronnster said by bleagh :Actually my Motorola 3347 still says interleaved, but my first hop pings are now 6 seconds. My Actiontec M1000 doesn't say anything about fastpath or interleave, but I did get some RS FEC errors on it yesterday. And first hop pings are still 6 seconds. My 3347 says "Data Path - Fast" with interleave off an similar first hop (5ms). Try a reboot maybe? I've got an M1000 in the closet but haven't tried it yet.
said by Bronnster :Update: Seems Qwest has taken it upon themselves to turn my interleaving back on. I have to say, i'm dissappointed that they would choose to do so, when in fact it was an improvement to my gaming and video streaming on Hulu and You tube. before with interleaving off: I was warned that any equipment work on the neighborhood lines or DSLAM would result in interleave being automatically restored, as the techs have no way of knowing which lines are using it and which are not.
