1db is probably not statistically significant. I'd read your levels as: "effectively unchanged". -- I'm not a tax dodger, I'm a potential cabinet appointee! |

| reply to hurley1904 I just requested to have my interleaving turned off. I told them it was to lower my pings for online gaming. They said they would make sure my line would support it, and call me if if doesnt. They said it will take 24-48 hours. I will let you know what happens. |

Looks like my signal to noise improved a tad. The proof will be in using the line over the next few days. |

interleaving is a type of error correction, why would you want fastpath
SilentCid(Wed May 13 2009 16:39:29 GMT-0700 (US Mountain Standard Time))>
because I vpn to a computer in New York and the extra overhead latency is causing lag issues.
Tech James(Wed May 13 2009 18:42:21 GMT-0700 (US Mountain Standard Time))>
It looks like you have a strong signal and I do not see errors on the line, I will send this up to the engineers and they will test the line further and decide if they will do this or not, it will take a few days, what number can I call you at to let you know what they decide
SilentCid(Wed May 13 2009 16:43:02 GMT-0700 (US Mountain Standard Time))>
yeah can you call me on XXX-XXX-XXXX

| When I asked if I could be switched from Ileave to Fastpath the tech initially said "I am sorry I am just tech support is this a billing issue?". Then after I said Interleave (and perhaps after he asked a supervisor or looked into it further) He said he could do it for me. |

1 edit | reply to hurley1904 Looks like 3 business days have passed and I was suppose to get a call about the status of my switch which no call was made out. Apparently when talking to anyone else in tech support. The person you talked to you last about the switch is the only person who can help you again. No other agent will touch it. They didn't give me any sysrep on the switch other than James wasn't here you'd have to ask him when he gets back. |

1 edit | reply to hurley1904 Well, I decided to make the jump. After the chat he asked if I would like to be contacted, I said yes, he said by phone or by email, I said email. And I did get the email shortly after interleaving was removed.
I was a little concerned about getting interleaved removed, because I only had a 22ms first hop ping with interleaving. And also because my Actiontec M1000 modem seemed to get quite a few RS errors now and then (they would come in bunches where I would get a whole bunch in just a minute or so, then go a day or two, and sometime several days without getting any at all).
But my Motorola 3347 modem/router does not seem to have this problem. I would get a CRC error now and then (maybe once or twice a week), and no other errors at all.
With interleaving removed, the Motorola 3347 did get 7 CRC errors in the first 3 days, but only 1 CRC error in the 2 days since. So while it seems it may be getting a few more CRC errors, 5 days has not been long enough to say for sure. And it certainly is not enough to cause any problems.
The only stat that seems to be effected is the downstream SN Margin. Both before and after the downstream would train as high as 18dB, but then would drop a bit over the next few days. With interleaving it would never drop below about 14dB, now without I have seen it drop to 12dB.
So. with interleaving: SN Margin (dB): 14-18 / 14 Line Attenuation (dB): 28.50 18.00 First hop ping: 22ms
Now without interleaving: SN Margin (dB): 12-18 / 14 Line Attenuation (dB): 28.50 18.00 First hop ping: 6ms
I want to give the Motorola 3347 some more time before trying the Actiontec M1000. But I will try the M1000 sometime in the near future. |

| reply to hurley1904 So far nothing. I had to repeatedly ask whats going on with the status. The first agent that I worked with didn't put in the ticket to the engineers to do the switch. So today when I asked whats the status they actually said that one of the agents who helped me on Monday had put in ticket on monday and it went into pending status on Tuesday. I'm suppose to hear something by Friday.
Moral of the story is never to wait for the call because they will either forget you or never put in a ticket. |

2 edits | reply to hurley1904 I finally received my fastpath switch. So like what other people have said. Talking with live chat really helps. So skip the phone and head over to the live chat which gives you a heck of a lot less headaches.
Here is the interleaved and fastpath results for my connection.
With Interleaved:
DSL Connection Details DSL Line (Wire Pair): Line 1 (inner pair) Protocol: T1.413 Downstream Rate: 7168 kbps Upstream Rate: 896 kbps Channel: Interleaved Current Noise Margin: 13.0 dB (Downstream), 9.0 dB (Upstream) Current Attenuation: 36.2 dB (Downstream), 24.0 dB (Upstream) Current Output Power: 19.8 dBm (Downstream), 12.3 dBm (Upstream) DSLAM Vendor Information: Id: {39} Rev: {0x07} Std: {0x01} PVC Info: 0/32Yes
With fast path:
Line 1 (inner pair) Protocol: T1.413 Downstream Rate: 7168 kbps Upstream Rate: 896 kbps Channel: Fast Current Noise Margin: 12.0 dB (Downstream), 7.0 dB (Upstream) Current Attenuation: 36.3 dB (Downstream), 24.0 dB (Upstream) Current Output Power: 19.8 dBm (Downstream), 12.3 dBm (Upstream) DSLAM Vendor Information: Id: {39} Rev: {0x07} Std: {0x01} PVC Info: 0/32
Current noise margin is the only one that dropped on these.
Lastly, some of my line test that I did. The lowest number is the fastpath taken today.

| reply to hurley1904 I contacted Qwest online support today to see if I could get interleaving turned off and...
said by Qwest Tech Kathie : There is an Interleaving function that is added to your line as an error correction method to increase the overall stability of your service. We can test removing that error correction step from your line and see if that helps with any issues you may be having. If that change decreases the stability, our engineering team will need to turn it back on again, but we can give it a try. It takes about a week to process that request. Should I proceed with that request?
I told her yes, and we will see what happens. -- Duct tape is like The Force it has a light side and a dark side, and it binds the Universe together |
