Qwest is correct in that most normal users will not notice any change with interleave removed. Plus as in your case a possible negative. My suggestion is if you are unsure what interleave does and what latency is you probably do not need it removed. Your connection with general use will not noticeably be different. |

Definitely a positive impact here. Now we just need the VDSL2 and we are good.

@qwest.net | reply to hurley1904 Interleaved removed see how it is working later. Seems ok right now. |

@qwest.net | reply to hurley1904 Had time to check. No errors yet so should be ok. Coming from the VDSL offering it should be fine anyways. The line had been conditioned for VDSL internet and TV. |

| said by spoda :I take that as a no...... Interleaving is beneficial in dealing with errors; however your stats are good and you don't seem to be getting a lot of errors. You'd probably be OK on fast path, though it's going to be up to Qwest whether they change it.
In general, unless you're doing something that is adversely affected by an extra 32ms latency (gaming mostly), there's no real benefit to fast path. |

join:2002-03-27 Port Orchard, WA | reply to hurley1904 Thank you for the reply. I do play a lot of FPS games online and have always loved the consistency of my Qwest connection. I would like to lower my latency, though, so maybe I will chat with them and see if they will switch me. Thanks. |

@qwest.net | reply to hurley1904 I kept my online request very simple and it went smoothly. Almost cut and paste. Think I wrote less than a few sentences for the request. Just what I was requesting. |

| reply to hurley1904 I was just told that Qwest is no longer removing interleaving, after testing in some markets. This was from an online chat. The guy (Randy) seemed pretty certain.
Tech Randy(Thu Jul 09 2009 01:21:07 GMT-0600 (Mountain Daylight Time))>
you know how rumors are, they did do temp testing, and decided it was not worth it to remove it.
Tech Randy(Thu Jul 09 2009 01:21:45 GMT-0600 (Mountain Daylight Time))>
they did testing in markets, they did not set it to remove. and they are moving those back to interleaving. |

| I will be keeping an eye on my connection. If it is true and they turn me back to interleave, I am going to be very unhappy and will be leaving Qwest. I game a lot online and being put on fast path has shown an imporvement, slight, but sill an improvement. |

| reply to cekowalski Cekowalski got the standard response. I would not give up because one person said it is not going to happen. It can and will happen if you are persistent enough. I have had interleave removed for around 4 years on my Qwest line. They are not going to revert it back just because some teir one tech said so. Qwest does not seem to give teir 1 techs any more info then they have to. |

| reply to hurley1904 Hi, I finally decided to try my Actiontec M1000 with my no interleave connection. And so far it seems to work pretty much the same as the Motorola 3347.
With interleaving, the M1000 would get a bunch of RS FEC errors. These would come in bunches, meaning it would get a whole bunch in like a minute or so, then not get any for a day or two (or even longer). I was afraid that these would turn into CRC Errors after interleaving was turned off, but it doesn't appear to be the case.
Currently the M1000 gets pretty much the same number or CRC Errors as the Motorola 3347 did (usually like 2-6 a day).
Overall, my connection now actually seems BETTER than it did when I had interleaving... |

| said by MSauk :by the way how will I know when I am on fastpath? If you run a speed test it should be obvious. Log into the modem via browser and under Data Path on the DSL Status page you'll see "Fast" as opposed to "Interleave".
I requested interleave to be turned off on 7.20 and it was turned off today. Pings to various servers show an average of 25ms versus 60ms with interleave. Not as dramatic as I was hoping but a good improvement.
DSL Status
Numbers are essentially identical to those with interleave enabled:
DSL Statistics
Line State Up Modulation ADSL2+ Data Path Fast
Downstream Upstream Max Allowed Speed (kbps) 12124 892 SN Margin (dB) 23.00 10.40 Line Attenuation (dB) 7.80 4.90 CRC Errors 0 0

| Actually my Motorola 3347 still says interleaved, but my first hop pings are now 6 seconds.
My Actiontec M1000 doesn't say anything about fastpath or interleave, but I did get some RS FEC errors on it yesterday. And first hop pings are still 6 seconds. |

| reply to bleagh Looks like I spoke a bit too soon in my post about my Actiontec M1000.
I stated that it was pretty much the same as the Motorola 3347, but then yesterday I got quite a few errors.
37 Near End CRC errors, 52 Far End CRC errors, 136 Near End FEC.
So after more than a week with only 3-5 errors a day, the M1000 did have a little burst of errors. Not as bad as when it was on full interleaving, but the Motorola 3347 never does it at all (3347 just gets 3-5 CRC errors a day, never much more than that).
So still not real bad with the M1000, but not as good as the 3347. |
