 Worst service ever?

I've used a large number of ISPs in my time and none of them have been as horrid as Knology in Huntsville, AL. Their customer service is abysmal. Their internet connection is so bad I almost don't know where to start. And it's getting worse every day.

When first inquiring about Knology's services I was informed that they offer a "6 Meg" connection for only 60~ dollars a month. Knowing the wording schemes ISP's use nowadays I asked whether that was 6 megabits or megabytes a second, and was told 6 megabytes. I figured this wasn't true but thought hey, you never know. Turns out they can't even reliably provide 6 megabits per second. That was the first of a long and seemingly brainless chain of CSR's that I've had the displeasure of talking to over the past 10+ months.

If you call in for tech support and the obvious things like restarting your computer/cable modem, disabling your firewall, removing your router, etc don't fix the problem then they'll schedule a date to send a "tech" out(god help you if you escalate your call to a supervisor, because they're as ignorant as the CSR's but have an attitude as well). Even though the "tech's" scheduled time will give him a 2 hour window he'll still be late, anywhere from an hour to an entire 6 hours(seriously). You'll end up having to sit at home waiting for hours for a "tech" to pussy foot over to your residence to spend an entire 5 minutes there doing the same shit you already did for the people on the phone. He'll either say "everything looks fine to me!", or make up lies pertaining to the problem at hand.

Internet slow at peak hours? It must be that modem, it's an old model. Next time it will be the weather. The time after that it will be your computer, and you'll need to buy a new NIC card. Or they might just close your account one day at your (nonexistent) request and have no idea who did it, have no explanation as to why, and then take over a week to reinstate it(but they'll be sure to try charge you for that week you were without service). After calling in so many times I lost track (over 30) regarding problems with my internet connection, I finally convinced someone to give me an entire 40 dollars off of my bill for one month(after not being able to use the internet for almost the entire month anyhow). I should have kept the modem that they said I returned and gone without internet.

Needless to say I wouldn't recommend this service to anyone. I read some decent reviews on here from people using Knology and I'm happy for them. But this kind of service for over 10 months is unacceptable ANYWHERE for any kind of company that considers itself legitimate. I'll be closing my account at the end of this month. Good riddance.

Sounds about right. I called Mediacom on Friday to set up an install appointment (though I've heard they aren't much better). If I can get a reasonable ping after 6:30pm along with having an accurate bill every month instead of mysterious "previous balance due" charges, I'll be happy. Otherwise, I'll probably have to suck it up and go with AT&T.

I'll be calling Knology in the next day or two to ask them to disconnect my service in preparation for Mediacom's install.

SunnyD, where in Madison do you live? I live off Hughes and I don't think Mediacom is an option for me.

I agree. Knology ping times suck! I wish I knoew someone with DSL so I could find out what the pings are from 5:00pm - 9:30pm.

mediacom = to dirt. i came to knology from slow dsl by bell south and crappy tv from mediacom.......... mediacom took 2 weeks(and yes, the video was fuzy and in black and white) to come out and run a new line since the old one had a split in it. don't except service within 48 hrs as you'll be very disappointed.

knology video is good compared to mediacom.
my house was with mediacom(video) since 96 and it's steadily been going down hill. in december, my house switched everything to knology. mediacom calls and ask "why did you disconnect from us." i answered with," sh*tty service and a wait time of 2 week to get soemthing fixed."

Knology seems alright here in NW Huntsville. I've leeched off my neighbors 6mbit connection for couple months. The downloads speeds on usenet were 5.5 - 6mbits per sec. I'm considering from switching from ATT overpriced DSL to Knology 6mbit for $45. I've also consider Mediacom but their prices are high as hell.
