[POLL]Cookie Controls - 2009 Member Choice

Wikipedia defines cookies as "parcels of text sent by a server to a web browser and then sent back unchanged by the browser each time it accesses that server. Cookies are used for authenticating, tracking, and maintaining specific information about users, such as site preferences or the contents of their electronic shopping carts. The term "cookie" is derived from "magic cookie," a well-known concept in UNIX computing which inspired both the idea and the name of HTTP cookies."

Cookie Controls 2009 Member Choice Poll is now open. Vote now and tell us what you use.

Thanks for the poll.

Voted CCleaner and "Other." Other includes the cookie filter in WinPatrol and the scanner in SuperAntiSpyware.

Excellent poll, Littlem129 .. thanks!

I don't use any of the listed "cookie tools" .. and voted "Other".

Cookie "control", for me, begins with tight browser settings (IE7) and, periodically, I allow SuperAntiSpyware to "massage" unwanted cookies that do manage to get through.

I used to use Cookie Pal, since Win98. But as the browser's own internal controls got better, and I learned more about cookies, I just use the built-in controls now (FireFox).

Using Paraben's (same as Cookie Pal, looked like a company split) no longer supported and appears that Cookie Pal may be heading that way also. Not recommending anyone invest in it nowadays.

MRUblaster, CCleaner

Re: [POLL]Cookie Controls - 2009 Member Choice

Thanks Littlem129 See Profile for the great pool.

I picked "none", but I do use cookie control via my browsers. Settings are always set to the following in every computer I use/fix :-

• Allow first party cookies
• Block third party cookies

Fx is set to reject all third-party cookies, and request how to handle all others, which are rejected unless doing so proves detrimental to my "web experience" in some way that is important to me, and if accepted, are session only, again, unless doing so proves detrimental to my "web experience" in an important way.

Cookie Culler (it's "Protect" feature is great) is teamed with Cookie Safe for ease of control, with CCleaner, MRU and/or SpyBot S&D occasionally used for cleaning up the tracking pantry.

Great Poll Littlem129!

CrapCleaner and whatever my scanners wish to delete.
Cookies don't bother me - plus I'll just get them back sooner or later.

I chose Other.

I generally set my browsers to accept all cookies, but sometimes, I forget. Also, Privoxy may crunch some cookies as well. The only setting on it that I explicitly change is disabling force-session-cookies.

I pretty much never manually delete them and also go out of my way to keep anti-spyware programs from doing so.
