[POLL] Hex/Text Editors - 2009 Member Choice

A hex editor (or binary file editor or byte editor) is a type of computer program that allows a user to manipulate binary (normally non-plain text) computer files. Hex editors that were designed to edit sector data from floppy or hard disks were sometimes called sector editors or disk editors.

By using a hex editor,a user can see or edit the raw and exact contents of a file as opposed to the interpretation of the same content that other, higher level application software may associate with the file format. For example, this could be raw image data,in contrast to the way image editing software would interpret the same file.

Voted none, but I do use the free FileAlyzer (from the SpybotS&D people) to look at some hex.

Getting a more comprehensive one (and editor) is on my "would eventually like to have one" list

ultraedit here.
though i rarely use it for text, i use it a lot for network device configuration management and for writing in .m code.
to note i also use ultracompare for a lot of change management comparisons of both ascii and bin-type text.

For the last few (7-9?) years I've been using TextPad. Love it!!!! I use it every day at work to edit Sybase DB object (stored procedures, SQL scripts, triggers, etc.), Java, DOS batch (.BAT) files and Perl scripts/modules. If The Powers That Be at work were to say that I can't use it anymore, I'd have to walk off the job and go somewhere else immediately .
