Motorola SB6120 Config File

I just installed my new SB6120 and it downloaded it's config file. The highest speed tier we have in Central Cali is Blast! So I'm wondering what my config file is for:

That file indicates your modem is not provisioned correctly. What webpages can you hit? Or are you being sent to the Comcast setup page only?

I've seen a topic like this before and he has the same file, yet gets 16/2 and can visit any webpage like his modem was normally working.

You may be having the same thing happening here. If it's working, though, I wouldn't mess with it until there is a problem.

Working perfectly as far as I can tell...... I was on the phone with the tech when he provisioned it, and he said everything went through fine. It's just that my old Linksys modem showed what speed I was provisioned at, and the new SB6120 does not. So I was hoping someone knew what speed this config file is for.

edit for spelling

Well, if you're running at 16/2, the max sustained you should get is 17.6/2200. Powerboost with the new modem is crazy from what I've heard, but that's another story.

As for your question, with the config file you have, you shouldn't be getting any speed at all, but you're lucky, so cross your fingers and enjoy it.

That is an example of the one you're supposed to have when running on a Motorola SB5100 Docsis 2 modem.

SB6120s like you have now are meant for more then Blast! speeds. When you see people having these modems they usually have the new speed tiers Ultra and Extreme

See here for the advertised speeds for each tier. »Comcast High Speed Internet FAQ »What are the actual Provisioned Speeds?

On the bright side, you having a 6120 means, if you wanted, you could probably go for the Ultra and Extreme speeds with just a phone call like you had the tech set you up over the phone right now. (I've read though, that Comcast is bitching about doing that cause people aren't supposed to be able to buy the new modems in stores yet and will only give you Ultra and Extreme if you call them up and have them come out and install the new modem, (Renting it from them for 3 bucks a month too!) and doing it that way.

Seems really stupid since you already have the type of modem they'd come to install themselves, huh?

PS: Has Docsis 3 even been officially rolled out in your area yet?

No, but my old modem died and the new Mororola was only $99.

Yes, then you're planning to stick with Blast for a while then?

That's what I'd do until Docsis 3 is officially available in my area and everything is running. Less likely to run into problems that way, ya know?

When D3 is officially available, are you gonna upgrade to the newer speeds?

Btw, where did you get the 6120 at? I heard Fry's in certain areas are carrying them.

We just got Blast, so who knows when new speeds will come. I did get the modem @ Fry's.

Where are you at in Calli? Comcast had a front page article about hitting parts of the SF Bay Area with D3, along with that came Blast to places that didn't have it when the BA was hit with it before some 2 or so years ago.

I'll be crossing my fingers for you that the new speeds come for you soon, but for now, just enjoy the Blast! I know I would! (I'm still stuck at 8/2 vs 16/2)

Did you order the modem online, or get it in the store?

I'm a couple hours south of San Fran. Blast doesn't show as being available at my address on Comcast.com, but I called the 800 number and asked if it was available and they said 'yes'. I has the Performace Plus tier before.

I ordered the modem online. Took a week to get here as Fry's ships from Ohio or somewhere like that, even though the stores are a couple hours north of me.

Chatting with a comcast rep:

I see. For walledgarden bootfile, you need to contact RTP for that so they can do apt to the modem..

Same thing happened here. You got to Comcast online and it hardly shows anything for months, yet, you go to the Comcast office and they say "Oh, yes, we have that" and that's how I got the Performance Plus tier. Now I'm waiting for Blast!

I was Ex-Time Warner Cable before Comcast came in. What were you, Adelphia?

Glad to know you can get the modem online. BestBuy had it listed, but it was backordered and they soon took it down, but it'll be a matter of time before everyone can order their modems online or walk into the store with no problems, just like can be done now with current D2 HW.

I do hope you get it solved, but if you weren't having a problem, I would've left it alone.

Really, all they have to do to fix it is push the correct file for Blast! It'd be like the one I listed, if not the exact one.

Haven't seen too many reports of Blast! running on 6120s, so I couldn't say. (Though it can, no problem, as you've seen.) Most that have 6120s are opting for the faster Ultra or Extreme tiers.

Good luck! ^_^

We've been Comcast for a long time, I don't even remember who it was before.... just a local cable company.

Yeah, a few people said Comcast wouldn't even provision it for me, but I had zero issues. I called support and was up and running within 10 minutes.

Lucky you. I hope you continue to have a trouble free experience and I hope everyone, including myself gets the same trouble free, quick experience.

Btw, I've heard the same thing about Comcast not provisioning, and that's what I was referring to in one of my earlier posts.

You're very lucky not to have issues with the modem thing. ^_^

The tech I was chatting with gave me the name of the correct config file, but I did not copy/paste it

She then referred me to RTP (not sure what that is), but no one ever came on the chat. So I just closed the window. Still have the walledgarden config.

Do you remember the name of the config file they gave you? As for still having the wall garden config, I'd leave it alone as long as it's working or you're ready to upgrade to D3 speeds.

I hope the situation is resolved to your satisfaction. ^_^

It was somewhat different than the one you listed. I don't remember what it was though.

Here's my current speeds:
