| bought my SB5120 I bought my SB5120 when it was on sale for $25... so it paid for itself in 8 months, and we've had it for oh what 3 years now? so in the end I saved on it, and I've NEVER had a cable modem break... if its line is bonded correctly (grounded) and used in proper conditions it should last a while... maybe when these modes are about $60 i'll buy one, until then I'll rent the SB6120 | |

| | Re: bought my SB5120 I have had my SB5100 for 5 years without any trouble. When D3 service finally makes it to my neighborhood and the price for a SB6120 modem at $60 I'll pick one up. | |

They pay for themselves.
Never any issues other than getting firmware pushes.

I have had mine for about six years and I wonder if I should trade it in for a newer one. All the newer arris modems don't even have a backup battery and mine still does incase the power goes out.

| | | Ditto to that. I'm still using a SB4200 after 7 years and I've had no problems. It's far better than the terrible Linksys BEFCMU10 that Comcast first gave me, and that's the advantage of owning - you can pick a solid modem instead of whatever cheap piece of junk Comcast is handing out that week. I have more than made back the $100 it cost me at this point.
On a related note, is Comcast actually going to provision 6120s if a user owned one? I'm pondering finally upgrading so I can get the perks of powerboosting uploads (I've been holding off since the 5100s are obsolete) but I don't want to buy one of these things only for Comcast to be unwilling to let me use it.
