| Zoom 5564a, rule number one to be deleted - why not?
I have a question.
quote: Under no circumstances should you remove rule 1.
That info came from
zoom.com -> Support -> Technical support -> SmartFacts Customer Assistant -> ADSSL and VoiP Modems X5 Ethernet/USB -> 5554a ->ADSL - How to open ports 'A' and "56xx" Versions
Just wondering, why should anyone not remove that rule?
What would happen if you delete it?
As I post this, my Zoom 5564a is in full bridge mode and my connection is working fine.

| Because the Manufacturer has made a special Rule that is needed for NAT operation when in Router Mode. Since NAT is disabled in Bridge Mode and none of the NAT rules can interfere with the TCP/IP traffic it is a moot point as the Modem is not translating the packets when used as a Bridge. Just like the DHCP server settings don't matter either as they are not used when in Bridge Mode because the DHCP server is disabled in that state. You will need it though if you ever want to use NAT in the future so leave it alone as it is not affecting any of the Bridged Mode Modem's traffic. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

About full bridge mode, it does say to turn off the DHCP server..

And you are saying, no.
Which one is it?
[EDIT] That rule for my router, is.. quote: Rule Flavor: NAPT Rule ID: 1 IF Name: All Local Address From: 0.0.0.0 Local Address To: 255.255.255.255 Global Address: 0.0.0.0
While my router was not in bridge mode
I have deleted it, write settings to flash.
Connection to net does not work, then.
Re-created it, write settings to flash. And my connection to net, worked.

| No, DHCP should be OFF when in Bridge Mode. Normally you should not have to manually set it to off as the change to Bridge Mode is handled automatically by the Firmware (usually, but there are exceptions to the rule) after you select a radio button or check mark box to switch modes. DHCP and the other services that are not needed (NAT, SPI, Logging, PPPoE shim) all get turned off/are disabled all at the same time. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |
