Well, yeah I hear it works ok, but look where it is on the »/gbu and they have like 30min call caps however if you can deal with that then I think there would be a very good solution. And your PC has to be on to make a call. |

Was that to me? Well, if it was-
We just have an AT&T everything type of phone line service. We have unlimited nationwide calling, local, caller ID, and so much more. I think we only pay like $50 or $55 for right now (promotion). The phone line is really old. I think my relatives have had it since before I was born (1980s? Perhaps late 1970s?) (Way back before they changed it from 916 area code to 530).
So all in all, we probably pay about $110/month for Internet/Phone (maybe slightly more for the phone, I forgot we have an unused fax/dial-up line too O_O). My relatives would prefer that as we live in an area susceptible to power outages at any time. We have to have a regular phone line in case it's just our house that loses power, etc.
Though, our ISP has really good service too, I think you could probably do VOIP if you only had phone calls every once in a while.

Well, what do you pay for internet+phone now? IF you could get VoIP to work with the WISP, for about $114 you could have phone and internet. Do you know what speed it would be? |

Well we do have Mcom right now, the prblem is that it is now capped at 5gb just like all of the other 3g prviders. i like to game, watch vids, and download music tho so 5gb is not enough. |

We have the middle plan on my ISP, which is about $50 plus a $6 radio rental every month. So it's really not as bad. We used to have Satellite and paid like $80 for service that could never compare to what I have now. I think they know that the Cell Phone internet could potentially become a threat in the area soon, and there's always random companies proposing to put DSL or Cable in the area that I live in every once in a while. So they priced it lower knowing that there is competition, despite the fact that there is no 3G service offered anywhere in the county (But there COULD be).
Good luck to you, I hope that Millenicom works out for you if you go that route. I've heard a lot of good talk about them.

Ic, well I haave done a lot of research trying to find local WISP without any luck except for one and they charge $90 a month which is just too much.
There is a slight chance that comcast has recently become available and Im looking into that.
Any other advice is still appreciated. |

I know this is kinda late in for this thread and all. But it might be helpful if you do consider a WISP. Do you research and read their ToS before jumping in. (Millenicom doesn't seem to mind about gaming though it looks like, so that's always nice.)
Yeah, well normally at my house I subscribe to a local Telco WISP. In their ToS, they seem to have limits on gaming. I'm not sure why, but I've never had any problems with gaming, as some days I spend anywhere from 5-13 hours straight playing MMOs. (And, unfortunately, I don't get as good of pings as I should because one of my relatives is used to having DSL or better for internet. So she is a really heavy user (two browser windows with 10 tabs+ each going, streaming youtube, looking up stuff on her iPhone simultaneously).
You'll need a PDF reader, but this is my ISP's ToS:

They limit a few things, I think it's because they only use T1's and service a few thousand (or so) people with their towers. (In the particular area I live in. They offer better service in Klamath Falls, but that is because they have FTTH in some places apparently O_O.)

The cdu-680 runs on sprint and the um-175 runs on verizon. When we had millenicom (canceling this month now that we have access to a WISP) we started with the cdu-680.. Then when the sprint fiasco happened we went to the um-175. Both support external antennas and have a connection manager so you don't have to use dial up networking in windows.

I do not know, E-mail millenicom they should know. But from what I can gather from their site the CDU-680 is "better", but I may not understand what they r saying correctly. |

Not that i know of. Is it a wireless router u r talking about? If so you can just put it upstairs(right over the ps3) if u want for best signal both ways. |

About the USB thing, I was just wondering if, say I get a better signal upstairs, but I want my router downstairs... can I place the modem upstairs and use a USB extension cable to connect the modem to my router which would be downstairs. Sorry for the confusion. |

Static Ip does not = FWISP, IDK if an antenna would help or not.
"Does placing the USB modem somewhere else in the house and running a USB extension cord work too?" I don't get what ur saying. Does the ur game system have a usb port that can work as a highspeed port? If so plugging the USB modem into ur, a PS3 was it, may work. |
