Re: Just when I was thinking about buying one... Why is it crap?
I'm not a big fan of cell phones so it'd be interesting to hear.
To illustrate my point, I have, please sit down for this, a Samsung SCH-A570 - think `klunker' ... and I rarely carry it around. -- pablo openSUSE 11.0;KDE ISP: TekSavvy DSL; backhauled via a 6KM wireless link |

Thank you for your response. I'm going to assume other phones offer the above features.
Given my disdain for cell phones, a lot of the above features don't apply to my klunker except for the `no removable battery' That is absolutely awful. What do folks do when the battery has memory-effect? Chuck the phone? Send it back for `repairs'? -- pablo openSUSE 11.0;KDE ISP: TekSavvy DSL; backhauled via a 6KM wireless link |

In fact, my dumbphone/featurephone w580i had copy-paste, a2dp, voice-dial, mms, the same quality 2mp camera, removable memory, and a removable battery. My even older razr had MMS, copy-paste, and a removable battery.
Both of those phones cost me 10%-25% the price of an iPhone - so those aren't features that shouldn't be expected on a $500 device.

What do folks do when the battery has memory-effect? Chuck the phone? Send it back for `repairs'? They have to purchase Applecare (for $70), and send (you pay shipping) the entire phone in for repair. You're covered for 2 years, but if the battery is not more than 50% depleted, (which you can't measure ahead of time because you can't remove the battery), you're not covered.
Anyone who thinks the iphone is "one of the best phones on the market", either: 1) hasn't looked at the market 2) has fallen victim to the marketing 3) fallen victim to the fad 4) doesn't know what they're missing 5) gauges what's "best" by what everyone else has and probably also thought the Razr was the "best phone on the market" because everyone had that too. -- "What makes us omniscient? Have we a record of omniscience? ...If we can't persuade nations with comparable values of the merit of our cause, we'd better reexamine our reasoning." -United States Secretary of Defense (1961-1968) Robert S. McNamara |

I suspect if I ever get rid of my klunker, I'll be posting on here for recommendations. The one thing I like about my phone (the only thing actually) is it has the ability for me to plug in an external antenna.
I have a Yagi antenna at my cottage and use it to get reception on my mobile phone. We don't have phone service there so that's how I get it to work. -- pablo openSUSE 11.0;KDE ISP: TekSavvy DSL; backhauled via a 6KM wireless link |

You would think that these would be some of the first features put into the iPhone, I mean... c'mon these things are a no brainer. Whoever is in charge of this stuff should be canned.
On another note; I can't wait until the contract between AT&T and Apple is over and they release this on Verizon -- and the sweet thing is that by that time most of the improvements should have already been made. |
