The CSR verified with their field/engineering people while placing my call on hold to get the database & zone map checked out, and said they will need 24 to 36 hours to get it all loaded into the system, and that they will call me back this Wednesday to take the order over the phone & get everyting going.

I saw more white Fios trucks by VZ in our area recently and actually saw one of those huge grey/tan box outdoor in one of the private single family houses 2 blocks away from us this morning, and I stopped & spoke to them & confirmed that they manage to get it installed 4 or 5 months ago - it's superfast & reliable so far, etc. etc. It was easy to spot as in the front of their house, next to the garage/driveway & replaced the old NID and other cable links going inside the 2 story brick house.

So, when I called in - I insisted that they check the address & phone number, etc. in the database and bingo, it worked. Several weeks ago, I called in and they still insisted that it was not.

I will update my success later this week once I get an order number & find out how soon they can "light" up our block - looks like I will be first with fiber.

Yeah - cool, no more slow DSL as my speed was just dropped from 1.0/384 to 768/128, yuke !!

As of today, some sections in College Point have it & others still don't - and we saw more activities on C.P. Blvd. these past 2 weeks while ConEd is ripping out the streets & doing repaving after doing gas pipe work.

From seeing those red VZ Ford van with the DSL ads then to white VZ van now with white Fios ads, it's still a waiting game .... and, hoping, wishing & waiting.

At least my 84 years old mom's house over at Whitestone, 11367 - 149th Street around 15th Rd by the Mobil gas stations can now order Fios online. And, so - let's continue to sight & post and share. (and, no - she's fine with POTS, does not surf the web & Fios won't replace here DirecTV dish on the roof)

FIOS trucks been running all around here in College Point, Zip 11356 for the past 6+ months - and it's available on several blocks or sections of the neighborhood, i.e. up by 5th Ave. around 119th Street (waterfront by the park) and over at 14th Ave. & 129th Street since we got friends with FIOS installed & working. It's available on the next block up my street, across the Avenue - confirmed by business & billing office and also by tech. folks. When asked what about our block - and we can see the black FIOS cable running along up on the telephone poles, they simply answer - "we don't know & no information available to us" - you will know about it before we do with the truck & flyers on the door & mailers.

Duh .... and with the news that VZ is laying off 13,000 more this year & slowing down new FIOS rollout - even with the NYC franchise agreement, my faith and belief with what VZ has doing are seriously in doubt. I forgot to type the word "being" in my earlier comments.

I meant to say "... being wired for FIOS."

To expand on my earlier comments, the point is that Verizon's deployment of FIOS is not uniform throughout a particular area. Some parts of, for example, North Flushing will actually have FIOS deployment and other part will not have any deployment activity. How Verizon decides which parts to work on is not always apparent to the consumer. So rather than say North Flushing (i.e. ALL of it) is being wired for FIOS, it would be better to say which part of North Flushing has observed deployment activity.

So everyone should keep posting specific locations where they see or don't see FIOS deployment activity. I don't believe FIOS is available in downtown Flushing (at least not along College Point Blvd/41st. Avenue) so best DSL speed is still max'ed out at 3MB when I checked it for brother-in-law's private house.

Fresh Meadows, Forest Hills and South Flushing were Docsis 3.0 enabled.

Maybe you know this, does South Flushing have FIOS and did North Flushing or South Flushing get FIOS first? Obviously both will get it if they aren't working on both, but Im curious as to which one was first.

A ton of work is in progress here for September for sewer/water lines and there are scattered Verizon permits in town. My own guess says it will come here for 2010. When my building has a stack of FIOS flyers in the mailroom and/or has work coming into the building then I will know FIOS is here.

Till then, all this permit stuff is facinating but irrelevant.

Here's a few photos taken at the some of the poles since it's mostly if not all above ground in this part of town - had to look carefully & up close enough as it can be confused/mistaken with the old copper wiring. Waited almost 3 years since we moved away from downtown Flushing with 3 MB DSL service then to now barely 1MB/384 (was 768/128, yike !!) - 25MB plan will really, really make a hell of difference for "living at the edge" of broadband services.
