I have the Ryobi P813 drill. Came with two batteries, a flashlight, and a charger. I've since purchased a recip saw and my wife got me the circular saw for christmas. They are all One+ which use the Li Ion batteries that came with the drill.
Over the past few weeks, I've used them heavily on a kitchen remodel. I love them more than I did before. The Li Ion batteries fall off just a touch just before they die, otherwise they are full power through the whole charge. They recharge in a couple of hours. I have yet to have one battery run out before the other is charged.
They have a button you push on the battery and it lights up to show how much charge is left in green/yellow/red format. Even on Red, they still last a while.
Consumer Reports rates this drill highest for 18v. I do too.
Home Depot now sells the P814 in a kit with a recip saw, not sure if the 813 is still available. The 814 autoshifts between the two gears.

Makita...none better. I go through a lot of tools and over the years makita has held up better than Dewalt, Bosch, Porter Cable, and Milwaukee. If you want one tool that will cover most of your around the house needs and most light commercial needs (tapcons, small concrete anchors, light duty impact driver)..this is the tool to get. |

Unless you are talking contractor level usage, any of the sub $100 models from your favorite store will work fine.
I have a Ryobi model that works fine for me, it is variable speed and torque.

This 18 volt Ryobi kit was on sale at Home Depot for under $100 a while back. Drill, sawzall, circular saw, vacuum, flashlight, 2 batteries and charger, and a few sawzall blades.
Great for around the house work. |

I have a DeWalt that must be almost 10 years old. Recently replaced the battery for about $40 (Batteries Plus will rebuild just about any battery pack) I can drill little holes through wood, drive screws or drill big holes through cinder blocks, all with no problems.
