| [F@H] F@H On New Machine - Help I just got a new MB/CPU/RAM combination (Gigabyte board, AMD Athlon64 7750+ X2 CPU, and 4GB of RAM). When I load windows and JAWS and check CPU usage in task manager, it shows that folding@home is only using 50% of the CPU. The slider in the F@H configuration is still set to 100%. Did I do something wrong when I changed out hardware? How do I get it back to 100% like it was before? |

You can do multiple installations (there are some very nice FAQ's on the site) or just let it be. Your call. Someone with more experience with this hardware will probably be around shortly to tell you more, but I figured I could answer this much. -- Folding for cures - join us! »folding.stanford.edu (Team 4) |

howiehSpringPremium,MVM join:2000-08-06 Metuchen, NJ | reply to alphapointe In order to get 100% utilization on a dual core processor, you have to run two instances of the client. As you mention that the slider is set to 100%, I assume that you are running the graphical version of the client. I am certain that you can not run two instances of the graphical client, but I am not sure if you can run one graphical and one console version or if you have to change to two instances of the console version. I am at work now and can not go digging for answers. The info is probably contained within the FAQ. -- Hey Buddy, can you spare a cycle? Join Team Helix |

| I don't know if it's graphical or not. I didn't install the program. All I know is I select system tray, then folding@home-x86, then configure, and it gives me a dialog box.
I may just leave well enough alone if this is the way it's supposed to work and I didn't bust something putting my new system together. |

I am at work now and can not go digging for answers. The info is probably contained within the FAQ. You can't run two instances of the GUI client. Correct. You can run one GUI and one console uniprocessor client, but you must add the -local switch to tell the console client to use the correct folder. Otherwise, they will stomp all over one another and you won't get proper credit. This is because the GUI client puts its path in the registry.
If he wants to switch to two console clients, he can just create a folder for each, install them, add the -local switch to the startup of each and they will stay in their own folders.
Best, however, if going away from the GUI is to delete everything in the FAH folder and subfolders, delete the PandeGroup registry entry, then reboot before reinstalling.
I always use the -local switch in the startup. It doesn't hurt anything and it can help.
All that said, with a new faster dual core processor, I think I would try installing the SMP client. That, however, is a more complicated install process and can be more troublesome since it is still beta. -- Join Team Helix * I am praying for these friends . |

| reply to alphapointe I went ahead and followed the instructions for a service-based install, put it in a new directory, and configured it. It all seems to be working, according to usa2k 's script: »www.fah-tool.org/index.php?users=baldbrad

| reply to alphapointe After doing some reading and playing around, I have the SMP client running on this machine instead of two regular clients. It's using both cores, and it's installed as a windows service.
Woo Hoo! Look for lots more WU's and points under 'baldbrad'! |
