Re: How many of you could remeber the first mmo you played?

First one I remember playing was in college; Neverwinter Nights on AOL. Played Earth and Beyond until that closed but that was about it.

EverQuest, Planetside, Dark Age of Camelot, Star Wars Galaxies, City of Heroes, World of Warcraft.

Planetside from beta to around core combat, was the most fun I've ever had in any game to date. I wish they never released core combat, and the horrible ideas after.

WoW on a release was a carbon copy of what the high end guilds wanted EQ to be like. Now it's being run by casual gamers, and sadly the casual side is trumping the end-game raider side.

the other games, were drive by night, or just terrible to start (Swg) and enjoy. I hope in the future MMOs get away from the medieval times type feel, and shift more so to the sci-fi genre.

Ultima Online > EverQuest > Star Wars Galaxies > EverQuest 2 > World of Warcraft

I played MMOs nonstop for like 8 years, but thankfully I have finally broken the cycle hehe. MMOs are great games and I'm glad to see they have become so popular, but for me personally they are just too addicting and time consuming. I had to quit the genre because I felt I was wasting my life playing these games, but I will always have fond memories of them.

Guild Wars would have to be the first pseudo-MMO I've played, since it's the only MMO I've ever played. Just not interested in them. They're just overglorified IRC clients.

I guess Usurper or Legend of Red Dragon doesn't really count. The first MMO I ever played would then be Meridian 59.

The first MMO I played no longer exists. It was from Westwood Studios and based in the C&C universe. It was called Sole Survivor.

Anyone remember Meridian 59?
I do. That game had some unique features. It was released by 3DO if I remember right.

Planetside

Haven't seen it mentioned and may not be what was thought of when the question was asked. Played it from later beta stages up to about two years ago.

Miss the huge battles and hours of entertainment:(

easy: NONE!

I refuse to pay $50 to $60 for a game and then pay a monthly fee to play it too?!!!!!!!!
Even if it were free to play online, I suck, so, why would i want everyone else see how bad i suck?

10Six was my first back in 99 or 2000 (I think) on heat.net, which was owned by Sega. The game is actually still going under it's new name, Project Visitor.

Interesting that an avid UO player would enjoy WoW. They are like polar opposites on the 'sandbox' scale. One is like dating Jack the Ripper, and the other like Edith Bunker.

My first MMO was UO. I picked it up not even realising it had a monthly fee. I didn't like the idea of it, but I tried it out anyway. I was hooked almost imediately. Got PK'd a lot. I can't remember a game getting my heart racing more than fighting the PKs. Finally winning was nice too. I played it for around 7 years. I went on to try EQ, FFXI, CoH/CoV, but the only game that's held my attention like UO did is WoW. Over 5 years and still going strong.

i had fun on gank runs, pk spreeds, and castle sieges.
my clan was probably the most hated clan on Kain and thats the way we liked it.
the game itself has so many inherent flaws that it's a chore to even play. i quit at lvl 70 b/c it took literally an hour of mindless grinding to get a half percent of XP in the most ideal grps with outside buffers and sometimes healers. then dieing in castle sieges even with reduced XP loss and 90% rezzes and you're still out 4 hours of farming to gain it back since you die at least a few times each siege...
2 hours of fun with 4+ hours to recover? no thanks

The only now older MMO I remember having the best times in was SWG. I would still be playing it today if it weren't for NGE.

i dont regret anything in my life. bad experiences only teach me...eventually, but i do wish i had spent a LOT less time in L2 than almost 2 years. it became a job. i had no concept of a FUN MMO so i stuck with it...as a Warlord...and wasted 2 years of my life...
Oh come on now. You had to have fun sometime during the 2 years you played. Ever go red? Go on a PK'n spree with an alt? Castle siege? Wars?

I played on Devianne server because of a better ping, though Bartz was more popular. The first clan I was in was Lotus and we first went after the farmers, forgot the name of the clan now, when they started to interfere with new people trying to level.

Anyway, I keep up with some folks that feel the same way you do but occasionally visit Lineage II for a variety of reasons.

I may pick it back up, but it will only be during the winter months since I am indoors anyway hibernating.

The Two Towers MUD - I still maintain that it handled PVP/theft in the best manner I've ever seen in a game until this day (entirely self governing law system). Words would escape me to see this system implemented into a modern day MMO.

M59 was the first graphical MMO I was involved in and I left thinking "that's a neat concept."

Everquest just blew me away. The early feelings of that game will most likely never be duplicated.

I've since been involved in just about every MMO to hit the market.
