However, the first one that I actually got pretty heavy into was Dark Age of Camelot. Played that one for a good 2 years or so.

I only played one MMO and one only. Lineage II.

I don't play it now, but I do miss some of the PK'n, Sieges, Clan Wars, and endless day and nights party'n, err grinding, with friends.

I played UO on a private shard for a while. My computer wasn't butch enough to handle it at the time. I would have to say the first public MMO I played was Star Wars: Galaxies. That just about ruined me on the whole genre. I got talked into WOW by some friends and havent looked back.

Everquest was my first, and it got me hooked really quick. The stress of being lost. The thrill of teaming up with others to defeat things. The extreme worry of death and the extreme time loss associated with it. The excitement of completing some large dungeon and getting an item you thought you'll never see.

Play WoW now, and I enjoy it. But it never gave me the same feel I had when I played EQ. Probably no other MMO ever will again.

Everquest. A co-worker got me into the game back in 2000. I remember the first time I stepped into the world, someone ran by and I said "Am I online?" LOL Then I proceeded to get lost... Played the game for maybe a year or so then moved on to Dark Ages of Camelot.

Lineage II.

Before that game I hated the idea of MMO games that you pay monthly for. They had a free open beta and it was just like a free sample of crack.
ditto

i dont regret anything in my life. bad experiences only teach me...eventually, but i do wish i had spent a LOT less time in L2 than almost 2 years. it became a job. i had no concept of a FUN MMO so i stuck with it...as a Warlord...and wasted 2 years of my life...

but now i know better. i picked up wow eventually pre-BC, played for probably 1.5 years until i stopped having fun in BC and then quit. now i dont play any MMOs b/c i know my MMO personality...it's not good for real life.

EverQuest.

Started playing right after the 2nd expansion, Kunark was released. I've played many MMOs since then, but none of them put fear in you like EQ.

There were very harsh consequences in EQ which made it very exciting. Unlike today's games (WoW) where there are no penalties at all.

I definitely remember playing islands of Kesmai on CompuServe, Then Legends of Kesmai on AOL. I became a beta tester for Everquest and had a character for the first 8 years. Good times.

WoW for me.

I think I may have tried a trail of a MMO before that, but didn't like it and canceled within an hour of play time. It may have started with an R...

Either way, WoW was good times the almost instantly lost its appeal. Happened again when I picked it up the second time.

Heh, same for me pretty much. Started just as the Kunark expansion was released. Started a druid. My first epic journey was when I found out I needed to go all the way from Qeynos to Freeport to get a spell that the Jagged Pine Forest trainer didn't have. Took. Me. All. Damn. Day to get there.

Played that until DAoC came out, played DAoC for a bit, but my comp couldn't really handle that game so went back to EQ until EQ2 and a computer upgrade came about. Have played many others since.

If you consider a MUD an MMO, than it was DragonRealms. If not then the first true MMO was Asheron's Call.

Cool, I never really got into it but I did play for a short while. I think it was before UO. I played UO for a couple years. Still have great memories from that game. Althought it sucked when servers went down every night for maintenence.

Diablo, Diablo 2, Everquest(the best), EQ2, then WoW to present. I have played a few others but none have captured that eq feel. Getting lost over and over again. After the AoE bard nerf I left for EQ2 thinking it would be different until finally moving on to WoW.
