Planetside from beta to around core combat, was the most fun I've ever had in any game to date. I wish they never released core combat, and the horrible ideas after.

WoW on a release was a carbon copy of what the high end guilds wanted EQ to be like. Now it's being run by casual gamers, and sadly the casual side is trumping the end-game raider side.

the other games, were drive by night, or just terrible to start (Swg) and enjoy. I hope in the future MMOs get away from the medieval times type feel, and shift more so to the sci-fi genre.

the game itself has so many inherent flaws that it's a chore to even play. i quit at lvl 70 b/c it took literally an hour of mindless grinding to get a half percent of XP in the most ideal grps with outside buffers and sometimes healers. then dieing in castle sieges even with reduced XP loss and 90% rezzes and you're still out 4 hours of farming to gain it back since you die at least a few times each siege...
2 hours of fun with 4+ hours to recover? no thanks

I played on Devianne server because of a better ping, though Bartz was more popular. The first clan I was in was Lotus and we first went after the farmers, forgot the name of the clan now, when they started to interfere with new people trying to level.

Anyway, I keep up with some folks that feel the same way you do but occasionally visit Lineage II for a variety of reasons.

I may pick it back up, but it will only be during the winter months since I am indoors anyway hibernating.

M59 was the first graphical MMO I was involved in and I left thinking "that's a neat concept."

Everquest just blew me away. The early feelings of that game will most likely never be duplicated.

The the first paid MMORPG was Dark Age of Camelot, was kinda like WoW, I never saw the light of the raid concept, then came expansions, navigating thru seas in boats was a bit boring, then the 3rd where you at last got into instances and then PvPs. Instances were weird, you could solo most of them! sometimes you saw people outside and get invited.

I was wondering if anyone was going to say AC.

AC came out right around the same time EQ did, and pretty much had the same effect. I remember just being completely lost, and the feeling of submersion was awesome. I remember seeing people in GSA and thinking I could NEVER get to that point. I remember the first time I solo'd an Umbris Shadow....and then working my ass off to get bowstrings to make my composite...lol.

I still think AC had the best PvP, esp. w/ slide casting and actually being able to dodge spells. Heh, same for me pretty much. Started just as the Kunark expansion was released. Started a druid. My first epic journey was when I found out I needed to go all the way from Qeynos to Freeport to get a spell that the Jagged Pine Forest trainer didn't have. Took. Me. All. Damn. Day to get there.

Played that until DAoC came out, played DAoC for a bit, but my comp couldn't really handle that game so went back to EQ until EQ2 and a computer upgrade came about. Have played many others since.

I think I may have tried a trail of a MMO before that, but didn't like it and canceled within an hour of play time. It may have started with an R...

Either way, WoW was good times the almost instantly lost its appeal. Happened again when I picked it up the second time.

Started playing right after the 2nd expansion, Kunark was released. I've played many MMOs since then, but none of them put fear in you like EQ.

There were very harsh consequences in EQ which made it very exciting. Unlike today's games (WoW) where there are no penalties at all.

Yeah, I still have fond memories of playing Subspace on my Ppentium II machine. :) The game still has quite a following, though.
