Does the OP have money? I don't have the answer to that, which is why I brought up Legal Aid. What the OP is looking to do shouldn't take that much time or effort. After all, he's looking to assume a mortgage, not engineer a corporate takeover. -- We could use the £5,000 to buy a spoon. And then fill up with ice cream. |

In fact, the public legal aid clinic where I volunteered in Chicago mostly had lawyers like me. We came from the top and highest paying law firms in the city. It was part of our job to put in a significant amount of hours into pro-bono work.
I guarantee that you wouldn't have been be able to afford much time with us at our rates had you hired us. But, as pro-bono clients, we worked hard and knew what we were doing. You basically had the resources of hundreds of the best and brightest attorneys.
I know it's at least partly similar in Berkley, CA as well. Recently, I recall seeing that Wilson Sonsini was at least one of the law firms on the legal aid roster.
I think it's likely in most places you'll see this. It's the less capitalized firms that don't do much pro bono or legal aid work. And the ones that do have a passion for the law, so they'll do a good job as well. |

Legal Aid is Federally funded to help those that cannot afford the huge retainers. The lawyers work on a sliding scale, and actually can make it on their own, but choose to reach out to those that cannot afford a higher cost attorney fee. |

But there are few legal aid lawyers and MANY law firm lawyers that do legal aid work as firm pro-bono. We also did other non-legal aid pro-bono as well. |
