To steal, you have to remove an item from the owner.
The owner cannot have further access to that item.

If you steal a beer, it is no longer in that store.
If you copy a file, the original is still there where it was to begin with - in the owner's possession.

You cannot(should not) distort the meanings of actions to suit your take on things.

Copying is not stealing.
Copying is copying.
You and I copy things everyday.

*IF* copying is stealing, then we all have stolen items we have backed up.
Everytime you install something on your computer, it states "Copying files".

THEIF!!!

So if I copy all of the pictures on dsl reports then that not stealing but yet the photographers is out of money. If they are out of money then it is stealing. Copying should be the same as stealing.
To me anything that causes some one to lose money is stealing.
I would not you in my house.

If someone here is posting their valuable pictures in full resolution without a watermark on this publicly viewed site... they aren't really very bright now, are they?
If you see a picture here, your computer *IS* copying it - to cache!
Your machine is copying stealing and you don't even know it.

With an outlook like yours, I wouldn't want to come to your house!
If I look at your DVD collection, you might accuse me of stealing it.

If I could copy your HDTV and stereo, and your equipment never moved, how would that hurt you?

You might in the Temporary internet files but you would see them in a folder on the hard drive. If you your computer set to empty temp internet files when closing the pic is gone no intentional saving involved like downloading to a non temp internet folder.
Would you want some that is dishonest in your house.

Irrelevant!
You and your machine are copying pretty much anything you see on the internet. Period.
Trying to justify it with weak excuses is sad.

So you admit to having copies of the very things you are so against...
Thanks!

Everyone is dishonest to some extent. Even you friend!
I would allow you in my house even though I know you are dishonest.
What's your point?

You can look at my computer any day and see of the any pictures music, or movies are on my hard drive. Now could I do the same with yours. They only way that they get on my computer is in the temp file which is deleted at close of IE, firefox or I delete I don't have a folder or folders called music or movies that I on purpose downloaded.

According to you, copying is stealing - so you are stealing just like everyone else.

Can't have it both ways friend... either copying is copying or copying is stealing.
When I am through with my copied files, they get deleted too - and?

It's not stealing! no matter how you wish to twist it, it's just copying!
Thanks caddyroger!

Why would I copy music or movies to just delete them.

Why would you say that copying is stealing?
I don't think you know the difference.
You just repeat what sounds good to you regardless of any true meanings.

If the music is sold but you copy it The artist does not receive any money which is money stolen from him. You got music but did not pay the artist for it. Case closed it stolen no matter what you want to say about it.
I know what the difference is but a lot do not want to believe it is stealing.

it still isnt stealing, under the ideas of some people here and in the RIAA simply playing a CD for a friend is stealing because he didnt pay a fee to hear it.

Steal, er, I mean copy, yourself a dictionary... That should be "thief", you dolt!

It is easy for anyone, especially anti-torrent demagogues, to see why your thinking is sooo "fuzzy" on these issues; why, you can't even spell thief...

This is so flawed it's not even funny. The artist not receiving money is not the same as the artist having money taken away from him. How can you even relate the 2?

This is like comparing apples to oranges. Kmart has a physical item which they PAID for (the CD, album, whatever). If you go in to the store and walk away without paying you have stolen something that rightfully belongs to Kmart.

If you go to the pirate bay and download a song, you have stolen nothing. Assume that the original file came from someone who purchased the song at Kmart (see above) and posted it online. That person sharing the file and you COPYING it is NOT stealing anything. Copyright infringement? Sure! Theft? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!

Copyright infringement

Same as stealing the singer actor actress is not getting any money. If the cd or movie was bought they would be getting some money off.
No matter which way you to cut it copying is stealing.

But it's not. Dadkins explained why it's not very clearly and in detail. They're both wrong and both illegal, but they're not the same crime.

Why are you ignoring the fact that stealing is taking something away from someone that they ALREADY own? Copying is not the same. People who make counterfeit (copy) money aren't charged with stealing or theft. They are charged with a different, separate crime.

You're just being dense I think. No one is going to argue with you that copyright infringement is wrong but no one is going to concede that it's the same as theft.
