 | Be Careful of Vonage America Be Careful of Vonage -
Last weekend I called around and called Vonage America to inquire about a dial up trial and service which was informed they were going to send me the package and bill me after 30 days trial. Nothing was are received or used however
Three days later I had 45 debits from my checking account from them.
44 times of $11.01 1 of 24.48 Start up fee
thus adding an overdraft fee and stop payment fee because of overdrafts it would have effected for payments that I have authorized and still have not had my situation resolved from my bank from fraud and extra charges.
It is crazy that this happened and also that a bank would allow all these fees to go through.
I am writing to warn you about this company and help avoid trouble with anyone else about this in the future and have chosen a more reputable broadband AT&T service for my business.
Did anyone else have this happen to them and how did they best resolve it. |

And just what were debits of $11.01 for?
What you have posted is too bizarre to be believed. Got a screen shot of all the charges?
|
|
 | reply to mswatcher It's true and I got the bank to delete all the $11.01 charges but still have the 24.28 start up fee, overdraft fee and stop payment fees left. I put in a request to the bank to dispute these costs but it takes 7 - 10 days and I couldn't believe it until I saw it. I was going to pay a car insurance bill and way I shocked to find out I was overdrawn and how. That is why I'm telling you it could happen to you and be careful. |

| reply to mswatcher See this. Note that the site loads very slowly:
BUT, I would ask you, did you contact Vonage to see if this was a mistake on their end? This does not seem to be a common occurrence, after all. |

 | reply to mswatcher thank you for that report. i phoned the bank when i saw it and they said to contact vontage. so i did and was told there is no record of my account and that they would call back in 2 hours. they never did. i sent them an email and same thing about no record of me was their reply and sent them a copy of the statement along with it but the ref of the debit was with their phone number for proof it was from them. i have contacted them 3 times by email and once per phone and no reply in two days. the debits were on the 23rd march and my bank says i have to pay for the stop payment because i asked for it but have to contact vontage and i don't think i will get anywhere but it's under dispute. i hope it's not common but even if it was a mistake the least they could do is reply and was just warning people. |

J I agree with the others that your story is very strange.
Vonage---based in Holmdel, New Jersey---is a company that provides phone service over the internet; such service is generically called VoIP.
They do not provide internet ACCESS by any method.
So:
a) If all of us are wrong---if Vonage actually does provide some type of internet access---then please send us a link to one of their webpages that shows this.
b) I think that it's more likely that you were taken in by some scammer that's using a company name SIMILAR to Vonage. You said that you signed up by phone. Exactly what phone number did you call? And maybe that's why the REAL Vonage has no idea who you are. |

 | reply to mahermusic I know my story sounds strange but it did happen and I had to go to the Better Business Bureau to resolve it. I'm sure that they have good reports as well on Vonage. Unfortunately, my only experiences with them were bad. Vonage over debited me incorrectly, couldn't find me in their data base when I called for over a month and didn't completely resolve the monies they owed me until BBB came to help and now they are cooperating I hope. I went to Broadband and AT&T as I was researching places because of cost and thought Cablevision in Ct while very good was way too expensive which started my search. Once I went to Broadband from Dial up their was no way to go back to Dial up I decided. Broadband is so much better generally. Good luck Mahermusic with your experiences with them and thought it was important to let people know so others might be careful as I was shocked needless to say when I saw my bank statement from them and just be aware about it. |

Vonage and Covad Communications Announce Strategic Relationship to Deliver Vonage broadband
I don't see any evidence on the Vonage web site that this plan has actually materialized, but perhaps if one asks by calling them it is now available in some areas?. -- History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. -- Dwight D. 1 edit | The original poster said that this was Vonage Dial-Up internet access.
Covad would not be involved with dial-up.

Please re-read all of the posts, then tell me if any of this story makes any sense to you.
Vonage provides phone service over the internet, NOT internet service itself. At least not Dial-Up. |

Vonage provides phone service over the internet, NOT internet service itself. At least not Dial-Up. The OP's story is indeed fishy, but I was replying to your statement that "They do not provide internet ACCESS by any method".
And BTW, Covad does indeed offer dial-up service. It is automatically provided to all their broadband customers, and it can also be purchased as a stand-alone product even though it is not advertised on their web site. I would think that since Covad automatically provides dial-up service to their own broadband customers, that it would not be inconceivable that it would also be offered to the joint Covad/Vonage customers. -- History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. -- Dwight D. | I can't have the money owed to Vonage to come out of my checking/savings account. I had to give them my credit card number. I find it strange that the OP was able to have his payment to come out of the bank. |

In the US, many (if not most) banks issue ATM/Check cards to checking account holders that can be used for any transaction just like a credit card except that the charge goes directly to your bank acount. -- History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. -- Dwight D. | Maybe Visa/MC do offer those ATM cards here in Canada, I have a credit card and an ATM card so never needed to enquire about them. |
