I would be interested in starting such an ISP and I think it would be able to bring in people from the current major ISP's
these would be the founding ideas of such a company
No cap very well defined QOS based on DSCP ISP provided e-mail would be available (but not standard i.e. part of the package for noobs) would be fully transparent (like teksavvy) cable or fiber based (for last mile links)(no not DSL) ISO certified asap good support and constant improvement of network hardware (a cycle would be worked out and any planned outages would be posted atleast a week in advance and more
I think it would be a shining example of what could be done and would put shame to comcast, COX, ect

| | Re: Lets start a new better ISP why do wireline? that costs more. Wireless with Mot Canopy or something else of that sort would be better. Expand faster, and less overhead. | |

| Re: Lets start a new better ISP it actually would not be limited. More coverage area less overhead expenses as far as maintenance goes. You don't have someone idiot out cutting the cables, stealing them, etc.
Wireless can get a HUGE amount of bandwidth and works great. Check out the MMDS licenses/frequencies. www.watchtv.com and Comwavz.com.
Comcwavz was built off Cisco brand equipment but is being transferred to MMDS. You should see the coverage map. 1,000+ miles of off ONE tower? I don't call that limited.

and it would be good to get a wired foot print in first so that the wired foot print could be used to connect wireless towers later

| Re: Lets start a new better ISP backhaul. for now. All of the money would be spent out building the wired part and not actually delivering something to the end-users. Also you can easily get bandwidth from L3 and interconnect the sites.
And D3 maybe able to do that but you won't see it. But if you think you can build out a great ISP doing all wired and expand, go offer charter some money because Wired will fail if you worry about your interconnecting everything at first.

Wired will always be needed (they're working on 100GB fiber and backbone ISP would need that at some point)
So it would be a profitable structure to have the lines owned instead of leased

| Re: Lets start a new better ISP you will need a backbone to start off with before you offer services. you'd be better off to lease while you build out. then when a good share of the BB is complete start moving everything over to it. only used the leased dark fiber to connect cities that are not.
You can't just up and build a backbone and expect to make money off it if the bone never offers service.
