noslet, where do you live, what main street is the closet... i live in Brittany 2 and get this all the time, off billings road.
one thing you may want to try, is to call it in, do a tracert and if the node or #2-4 on your hop list, give them that ip address and they can narrow it down, and it's one those things where it does it 1 minute, stops for 5, and does it again, then you have exactly what i have.
i've called them, twice they have come out and replace the face-plate of the box at the end of my house, and you should ask them if your RF spectrum is reversed, b/c twice my box has had a reverse tilt and caused the pings to jump to 1500+ for long periods of time.
fyi, i came from mediacom, in which i was pissed with them b/c it took 2 weeks to come out and drop a new cable. their service is worse than knology. you'd be lucky if you got a tech to come out with 2 weeks of your call. and their internet is somewhat in the same boat. and the tv services at mediacom blow. just take a look at the dslreport.com mediacom forum. |

| I live over by jordan high school, close to warm springs road myself. And I'll give it a shot, I've pretty much given up on their tech staff myself, I had one of their techs who came out tell me he'd never heard of a tracert before which floored me. And everytime they've ever come out they've taken 1 look at my router and told me whatever my problem was was my router (I assume to try and get me to get rid of it and have to pay them more money for each IP to all the PC's I have in the house).
Every problem I've ever had on knology over the years and had to call them out they've always blamed it on the router, and usually within a few days/weeks said problem would disappear, and I'd be good for months. Even had a problem a few years ago where I would get disconnected every hour on the hour, and I had the techs come out and sat there with my watch and went 3 ...2 ...1 ...disconnected and they saw it and blamed that on the router too, and a week later the problem went away and I've never gotten it sense. So I've come to the conclusion most of their techs are useless, least the ones I've dealt with. =P
This problem lately has been nearly non stop for about a month however especially in the evenings albeit sometimes in the afternoon as well. It doesn't happen every night either, but I haven't noticed it doing it more over the weekend or the like when more folks would be on so I don't think it's overpopulation in my area either. |

| reply to Vertickle Well it's november now. I just bought a new router so I know it's not that, and I still get ridiculous amounts of packet loss constantly. I've called them out and they basically come into my computer room say oh you've got a router we don't support routers that must be your problem and just leave. Same stuff they've been pulling for months now. I've had them out 5 times in the passed 3 months all with absolutely nothing being done about my problem. If you don't have knology yet, and live in columbus, save yourself some stress and go to Mediacom or Charter cause Knology is worthless at least in this part of Columbus Georgia, near Jordan High School.
I'm not sure what the problem is but they seem to have no intention of fixing it as it's been going on for months now. So I've decided to switch to Mediacom at the end of the month because I've had enough with their incompetent techs (I actually had one tech ask me what a traceroute was when I tried to show him the trouble I was experiencing), and their slow service. At this point they aren't even trying to stay competitive.
It takes me 30 minutes to load a 2 minute Youtube video. I loaded faster on AOL with dialup back in the day. lol So I've had enough finally. Say what you want about mediacom. I've got 5 friends who use it in my area with no problems whatsoever. They get 12-20mbit down and 1-2mbit up depending on what tier they're on. I get 1mbit down if Im lucky due to their problems in this area (instead of the advertised 6mbit), and 30k max up. It seems to me they're trying to pull an AOL and are relying on people being uninformed to stay in business. Look at their speeds compared to their prices and it's a joke compared to Mediacom or even Charter. My friends are up all the time. They go down less then knology and have WAY faster download rates with none of the packet loss. I take my PC to one of their houses it's like a vacation. No packet loss, fast downloads, it's ridiculous how much better it is. Knology may be good for some in this city and elsewhere, but myself and a friend I have down the street both have had nothing but crappy service from them and they won't help us at all no matter how many times you call them out. They always just try and blame it on your router or your PC.
People who say mediacom is messed up must be in a bad area as all the people I game with locally are up all the time even when I'm down on knology or lagged to the point of not being able to play at all which is nearly all the time. Every provider has their problems but this packet loss lasting for months is unacceptable, especially when they try and blame it on you. And Knology's customer support is a joke. The techs they send out don't know their ass from a hole in the ground, and if you have a router you might as well not even call them as they will take one look at it, blame whatever problem you have on it, even if you just bought it and leave just to get out of doing their job. =P 5 service calls and no fixing of my problem = switching providers.
If you live in my area and are looking for a provider go to Mediacom or Charter and don't waste your time on Knology. You won't regret it. |

| reply to Vertickle Depends on what area your in I reckon. For me knology is just worthless, and you can't get any help from them in this area it doesn't seem like. Been at it for months, and friends of mine on mediacom hardly ever have any problems that live around me, and their down/up rates are far superior to what I can get on knology. Charter is in bankruptcy and yet they still manage to work better then knology in my area at least. My mother lives 1 street down from me and has charter and her down/up is way faster then mine too, and she doesn't go down all the time, yet alone run 50-80% packet loss as the norm 24/7. =P |

| reply to n0slet [From] Columbus,Muscogee,GA [Business customer] Business customer [Contract] $150 per month (12 month contract) [Positives] "Honest Technician" [Negatives] "Failure to spend money to upgrade." [Bottom Line] "Knology Corporate feels there isn't a big enough paper trail of customer complaints to fix hardware issues."
If you do any online gaming at all this company is terrible.
One honest technician was scheduled to come to my address. Basically he said it would be a wasted trip because the problem is happening all over the Macon Rd. area.
Connectivity is terrible on West Coast servers, okay at best East Coast servers.
Connection drops out or disconnects every 3 minutes simultaneously on my computer, my girlfriend's computer, and our neighbors computer rather we are on a shared network or separate networks. Line connection or wireless.
Apparently 2 weeks ago someone ran a program that detected an issue on Knology's end. The repair is estimated at approx $40K to fix, but because there is not a big enough paper trail of customer complaints Knology has decided to do nothing except claim that the levels are stable on the ping tests. (Which they are, however the problem is with Knology's hardware.)
This information was taken directly from the service technician who said they are having to deal with this and fighting a losing battle for the customer.
If you have similar latency/connectivity issues please post on the forums and reviews. Make them give us the service we pay for! |

| reply to Vertickle I'm almost fed up with Knology... the other options around here don't seem any better though.
For the past month, in the evenings between 7 and 11, I've been getting download speed of less than 1 Mbps.
