Swap to DOCSIS 3.0 Modem

Detroit, MI

I live in the Detroit area and swaped out the thomson for the new sb6120. Support had a really hard time getting their system to take my modem out of the "walledGarden" config. After about 30mintutes of struggling, they were able to get it working just fine. Using speedtest.comcast.net, my upload has gone from 2.6mbps to just under 5mbps. My download, with powerboost, has stayed the same at 30mbps which then knocks down to 9mbps once the boost wears off. I have the tier 2 internet package.

Any other Detroiters who have already put a DOCSIS 3.0 modem on comcasts network? If so, please post differences...if any.

What is the "tier 2 internet package," please?

I am tentatively calling your post a report of D3 availability, but I can't really be certain from what you said.

This is the best info we have on Comcast tiers: »Comcast High Speed Internet FAQ »What are the actual Provisioned Speeds?

Which of those is "tier 2?"

Did you order an upgrade to one of the two DOCSIS 3.0 tiers, Ultra or Extreme? Or do you have one of the other tiers (which one?) and you just wanted to add the new modem?

Apparently, according to a reliable source, DOCSIS 3.0 is not available in Detroit, so I'll need to change the title of that subtopic. This is, apparently, just a swap to a DOCSIS 3.0 modem ... for some reason.

I am sorry for any confusion. As for Tier 2 package I simply mean the extra speed package that is offered in my area. Maybe they don't call it that anymore? I pay $60 something a month and am supposed to get more than just the basic speeds. You are correct purchased the modem online. As i said before the only thing that looks to have changed is my upload shows just under 5mbps (4.7mbps). Btw, i have seen soo many comcast vehicles driving around in the past week. For an example, i saw a motorcade of 4 of vans yesterday all driving like maniacs. Although it could just be that i have docsis 3.0 and only notice them because of that.

After viewing your link and plans mine would probably be classified as this if you don't include powerboost.

*8000 kbps / 2000 kbps (Select areas)
Downstream: 8800 kbps
Upstream: 2200 kbps

The only difference is as i said before. My upload speed on »speedtest.comcast.net shows close to 5mbps.
