I purchased a wireless "Vonage device" NEVER got the rebate. It didn't work (supposedly that model was defective; but, last i checked Best Buy still sold it). Vonage did refund the money, so, in that sense, I got my money back.
BUT...
After several months of complaining about the piss-poor service, and being lied to about billing issues, I decided to cancel. Despite the corporate office having verified the tape, and my claims were true, I was told "We still cannot honor that". So, piss on them for lying to me not once, but twice.
THEN, when I cancelled, I was charged for the equipment I returned, AND a cancellation fee, which I was told several times I would not be required to pay, because I purchased my equipment, returned equipment, and was not under any time frame contract.
Lies 3,4 and 5.
After getting off the phone with Vonage, I called my CC co to stop the charges before they went through, but, they had already gone thru! Not even 10 minutes later!

Vonage can go to hell for all I care.

Btw, interesting how I had gotten dropped 30-50 times a day (literally, NO exaggeration) with Vonage, but, when I went with Time Warner's digital phone, I have been dropped maybe 10-20x in almost a year's time! Of course, my friend has Vonage, never once a poblem with his connection or his phone service. Had they not lied to me, I could have and would have chalked it up to bad sevice area, and if I moved, I would have returned. But, lie to me? Oh hell no! They got a couple hundred bucks, and thats it. Vonage can go to hell for all I care. I guess that MasterCard and Visa don't issue ATM/Check cards in Canada. In the US, many (if not most) banks issue ATM/Check cards to checking account holders that can be used for any transaction just like a credit card except that the charge goes directly to your bank acount.

The OP's story is indeed fishy, but I was replying to your statement that "They do not provide internet ACCESS by any method".

And BTW, Covad does indeed offer dial-up service. It is automatically provided to all their broadband customers, and it can also be purchased as a stand-alone product even though it is not advertised on their web site. I would think that since Covad automatically provides dial-up service to their own broadband customers, that it would not be inconceivable that it would also be offered to the joint Covad/Vonage customers.

Actually about a year ago Vonage and Covad announced that Covad would soon be providing Vonage branded internet service.

I don't see any evidence on the Vonage web site that this plan has actually materialized, but perhaps if one asks by calling them it is now available in some areas?.

Three days later I had 45 debits from my checking account from them.

44 times of $11.01
1 of 24.48 Start up fee

thus adding an overdraft fee and stop payment fee because of overdrafts it would have effected for payments that I have authorized and still have not had my situation resolved from my bank from fraud and extra charges.

It is crazy that this happened and also that a bank would allow all these fees to go through.

I am writing to warn you about this company and help avoid trouble with anyone else about this in the future and have chosen a more reputable broadband AT&T service for my business.
