This topic wins the 2009 "WHO THE F CARES!" award

As if the world doesnt have better things to worry about, here at DSLR we are constantly bombarded with 'news' articles about internet speeds, and how we compare to other countries. I truly cant think of a more pointless discussion, although I am sure there are other 'noteworth' picks.

Coming in a a close 2nd place, is the "Why does Japan have faster broadband than the US" garbage discussion.

I know! Anyone would think this were a broadband discussion / news site.

+1 I don't care so much about the speed I want a solid connection, and as long as I can do HQ youtube I am happy.

Right, except for the fact that this type of thing isnt actually news. It provides absolutely nothing in the way of value to anyone, and only ends up starting the same old "the US sucks and thats why we have slow broadband" nonsense comments. Its really nothing more than a rallying cry for the ("wanna be") psuedo-socialists to regroup and rant about the civilized world.

Wow, talk about painting with a mile-wide brush... Nice way to lump everyone who doesn't agree with you into a nice box, regardless of the content of their arguments.

This beats being bombarded with 6+ months of the Anna Nicole Smith bs on every TV 'news' station a year or so back...

It has nothing to do with agreeing with me or not. Go back and check any thread that has to do with this kind of topic. It starts off with a few normal comments, and then is taken over by people who (out of nowhere) start ranting about how the US sucks, blah blah blah. Everyone is entitled to whatever opinion they want (obviously), however these 'news items' seem to bring out the worst scum of DSLR.

I have to agree with you there , any change would be better. No mention of new technologies or proposed stuff. Just a constant drumbeat. I miss Anna.

These types of stories generate lots of posts. Lots of posts drive up traffic counts. Higher traffic counts generate more ad revenue.

Then why exactly are you here? I love it when people bitch about Karl being this and that, but still show up here to read the articles he posts.

Unlike the posts which come clearly from "Corporate Megapower to Crush the masses" camp who are always "Nothing to see here--- move along" when ever discussions of access, speed, penetration, privacy, etc etc come up.... It's always great to see the haves telling the have nots they should quit whining because everything is great, thank you very much.

Why does it bother you when we compare broadband in the US to broadband in other countries? How else can things be judged but by comparison?

There you go again. You paint everyone who disagrees with your opinion of the US as the "worst scum of DSLR." It is kind of hard to take your opinion seriously when you have such an utter contempt for folks of a differing opinion.

Incorrect. I paint the "the US sucks and thats why we have slower broadband" crowd as the worst scum on DSLR, NOT simply people who disagree with me. There is a huge difference between the two. Anyone is entitled to disagree with me, however when the entire basis of their opinion is based on the nonsensical belief that "the US sucks" then they are total idiots.
