I truly cant think of a more pointless discussion, although I am sure there are other 'noteworth' picks. Coming in a a close 2nd place, is the "Why does Japan have faster broadband than the US" garbage discussion. I know! Anyone would think this were a broadband discussion / news site. |

Right, except for the fact that this type of thing isnt actually news. It provides absolutely nothing in the way of value to anyone, and only ends up starting the same old "the US sucks and thats why we have slow broadband" nonsense comments. Its really nothing more than a rallying cry for the ("wanna be") psuedo-socialists to regroup and rant about the civilized world. -- When you can't make them see the light, make them feel the heat. -Ronald Reagan-

It has nothing to do with agreeing with me or not. Go back and check any thread that has to do with this kind of topic. It starts off with a few normal comments, and then is taken over by people who (out of nowhere) start ranting about how the US sucks, blah blah blah. It is kind of hard to take your opinion seriously when you have such an utter contempt for folks of a differing opinion. Incorrect. I paint the "the US sucks and thats why we have slower broadband" crowd as the worst scum on DSLR, NOT simply people who disagree with me. There is a huge difference between the two. Interesting statement here... And I'm sure that you don't see that believing that the US doesn't suck is equally nonsensical. The determination of "suck" is purely subjective.
Having quickly glanced through some of these "discussions", if they can be called that, I don't read the posters as basing their opinion on the presupposed notion that "the US sucks". I see people saying that "the US sucks" because the US lags behind other nations in certain areas. Big difference, but one that people seem to miss. -- "This is a bus. You know how big a bus is?" |

And I'm sure that you don't see that believing that the US doesn't suck is equally nonsensical. That is correct, I dont see that as being nonsensical. I see it (having blatant disregard for ones country) as being ignorant, ungrateful, and quite dangerous when taken in context.
said by NetAdmin1:The determination of "suck" is purely subjective. It certainly is, however when the term is thrown around with reckless abandon, with the sole purpose of demeaning ones country, one quickly looses all credibility.
I firmly believe that anyone who wishes to argue specific facts deserves to be heard, or at least is entitled to make their claims. My issue is that when the discussion crosses over into the "the US just sucks (et al)" the conversation becomes pointless and counter productive. -- When you can't make them see the light, make them feel the heat. -Ronald Reagan-
