So I have been looking all over the forum to find a solution to this problem that a lot of people seem to have. This is for everyone that doesn't have a LINKSYS WRT54GL router and is behind another version of LINKSYS that cannot support MLPPP or TOMATO Firmware. Although I'm sure this tutorial will work on any other router out there, I am positive this work-around will work flawlessly for anyone sporting a WRT54G(s) series LINKSYS router v5 or higher.
1st things first. If you haven't already done so make sure you HARD RESET the ST516 modem and connect the ethernet from modem to your computer and run ST516 EASY SETUP for BRIDGE MODE.
Instructions on how to do this step-by-step on Teksavvy website.

Once this is finished connect the modem to WAN port on router WRT54G(S). Now, in order to have normal access to the Internet you have to configure your router in PPPoE mode and enter your USER ID and P/W like provided.
Also make sure to change your router IP (gateway) to a different subnet since the modem uses 192.168.x.x for itself.
I changed my router to 192.168.2.1 as gateway. Doing this, all my IP's reflected on my machines are 192.168.2.100 and so forth. Some machines might need a restart or an ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew to get the new address from the gateway.
After this is done click SAVE SETTINGS and your ROUTER should now give your machines the new IPs, and connect to teksavvy or your internet connection.

Here is how you can access DMT v7.35 and ST516v6 MODEM CONFIG without the DAMN unpluging/HARD RESET/replugging crap !!!
This should work for all WRT54G(S) routers v5 and up that cant do TOMATO/MLPPP. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So now you have your internet connection running mint and setup your wireless computers & etc, and modem is basically a "dumb modem" since its running in bridge mode.
•1. Click the STATUS tab in LINKSYS router config and hit DISCONNECT from PPPoE. This will disconnect you from the Internet.
•2. Click the BASIC SETUP page to get back to the basic setup. Then change the setting from "PPPoE" to "STATIC IP". (figured this on my own after trial/error)
•3. Enter the following information under the static IP part:
Internet Connection Type - STATIC IP
Internet IP Address - 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.254
DNS: 192.168.1.254
Once that information is entered click on SAVE SETTINGS at the bottom.
•4. Now that you have done this you have basically turned the ROUTER into a NIC/STATIC IP that can access the modem config and DMT config utility.
Notice that while setup this way you will not have any access to the internet. This is just to get LINE STATS and config the modem. This saves the hassle of having to UNPLUG from ROUTER, PLUG into COMPUTER, HARD RESET, do LINE TESTS, RECONFIGURE and REPLUG back into ROUTER. So much work and such a pain in the @$$ if you don't have easy access to an ethernet port at the back of your tower thats aganist the wall.
•5. After your done playing around in DMT and MODEM CONFIG go back into your Router by web (192.168.2.1) or whatever subnet you set it to be.
•6. Change it back from STATIC IP to PPPoE and hit SAVE SETTINGS. Once you do that the router should automatically connect back to the Internet just fine and you will once again lose access to DMT and MODEM CONFIG.
*note*
sometimes when switching back to PPPoE double-check that the Router DHCP DNS are all set back to 0.0.0.0. Sometimes the stupid router leaves it at 192.168.1.254 and you cant connect so make sure they are all at 0.0.0.0.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------
Well, this concludes my tutorial. I hope it will bring help to people that got as frustrated as I did when having the modem in bridge mode and not being able to access it without unplug and hard reset.
I also made
JPG DEMO PHOTOS and a
RAR ARCHIVE that I will be attaching to this thread. This way you can visually see what I did to gain access and it might help other users who don't have access to TOMATO/LINUX/MLPPP at the present time.
If this thread helped you in anyway, hit me up with a thanks, and hope you enjoy.
ps - if you have 2 minutes to spare after reading all this, check out the PICS ... thanks
