3G access still too slow to support multiple users
In theory these mobile 3G/WiFi routers sound like a good thing. But 3G speeds are currently just barely adequate for 1 user/device at a time. If you feel the need to share that barely adequate 3G speed with 2 or more users, most people will be frustrated beyond belief to say the least. Maybe when 3G speeds start getting much better than they are now, these 3G/WiFi router would make some sense. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page
Believe it or not, I've broken 2 Mbps down while tethering with my BlackBerry on Alltel. Granted it was a one time occasion, but I usually average just under 1 Mbps around Tampa Bay. But down at Grandma's (a large retirement area in South FL) I always get at least 1.5 Mbps down.
The problem is the crappy 100-130 Kbps upload and the high ping times of at least 100 ms. Still, at least on Alltel, I think their EVDO could easily support 2-4 users with a fairly decent connection.
