But this could be a dangerous precedent. Many of our policies that are legislated today get the scrutiny of these "trusted" entities. Yes I know, they've done a hores*** job in many many cases. However, once they disappear, whos going to be the advocate for the taxpayer/consumer...the bloggers?

These companies are victims of their own success. They became to big by expanding, and they didn't realize the adverse effect that a new medium could have on their model. Everyone seems to be chasing this.
