Cost?

1 tb Hd would be excellent better than anything on the market today.

Will they charge extra like a dvr package? i would say yes. maybe?

just watch the content owners will sue this one down for some stupidly lame and weak reason. you know someone like MLB or the NFL will try and get it blocked by the court for the fear of it somehow bypassing blackouts or that is the excuse they will use.

This is for cable, not satellite.

They probably would have as good of chance w/DirecTV as they will trying to get ANY cable ops from leaving the Moto/SA set-top monopoly's - IOW's, a snowball's chance in HELL!!!

"Where is the Direct tv Sling-Integrated Box?"

In the trunk of the Ford Mustang with OnStar.

I hear ya. But what's the difference between Echostar offering and Sling offering the same type of device (even though sling's does no include a tuner)?

While I understand the sarcasm there, GM has offered OnStar and the needed equipment to use it to other auto makers. They had a deal with Acura, Audi, Subaru, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen for a while.

Of course, but those above were rattling on about Dish and DirecTV.

Right, but you responded to a post talking about cable STBs. Others were, yes.

Dish doesn't own sling, Echostar does. You did notice in the post that they are two different divisions, right?

This is a Tru2Way cable box, they don't have to convince any cable company to leave SA or Motorola. All they have to do is sell them in stores or direct to consumers. Who then get a CableCard from their cable company and authorize this box.

Echostar owns Sling, so Echostar is already offering both devices.

If you read this the PDF & other posts, it is NOT being positioned as a consumer bought unit, but a cable-op supplied box:

Uh, yea - and, it still not going to make ANY difference as far as cable ops go; it's STILL basically a Charlie Ergan company, who is NOT exactly known to be "cable friendly" - you of all people should know this...

This is true, BUT, they are not on the high side of the totem pole as far as subscribers compared to the top 3 cable and DirecTV.. so, if you ask me, it makes sense to, well.. okay, they're 1) going to fill a void where other refuse to. and 2) going to make a product that quite honestly will embarrass the cable companies.

Comcast has tinkered around with Tivo for almost 5 years now and it hasn't really come to bear fruit yet. Here comes Echo who's making a box for the other side of the business they'd have interest in (sat) and embarrass the hell of out them ALL WHILE making a profit which will ultimately assist in DISH.

It's kind of like the how the US spends money with other countries so they other countries can finance their attacks against the US using our own money.

This is really going to slap cable in the face if/when these boxes are able to be used tru2way and are sold on the retail market. Watch DISH make money from cable customers..

Also, I know several people at Dish who have said that this box will also be available for the DISH service too.
