| As most Telco based Wireless providers go to LTE, WiMAX will be more of a niche. Too many 'bell' style carriers have many millions/billions invested in a) spectrum supported by CDMA/GSM/UMTS and soon LTE (reuse?), and 2G/3G/4G compatibility b) international roaming agreements c) handset vendors/chipset vendors (except Intel)
I don't have anything against WiMAX - this is more of a large scale issue. +3 billion GSM based handsets with global coverage. »www.3gamericas.org/documents/LTE···2009.pdf
I do think that WiMAX can make inroads in: - replacement of ADSL - low(er) cost mobile broadband - integrated devices - 'emerging markets' - rural areas that need data and have none. |

| reply to en102 said by en102 :c) handset vendors/chipset vendors (except Intel) Only problem here is Verizon, through a previous announcement, appears they are not going to support SIM cards or the equivalent. This will most likely require a special run of handset just for Verizon. Either that or they will use standard phones and weld a SIM into the case such that it cannot be removed. -- I support the right to keep and arm bears. |

leats see some action. verizon, if i recall correctly, had to delays one of their major initiatives only because the govt pushed back the move from analog to digital from feb to june. and thats an external circumstances. lets see what internal circumstances causes delays in this initiative.
