Frequent Disconnections?

I recently got my internet with Velcom (about 3-4 days ago), but I get a lot of random disconnections for some reason. And the first day, they were having some kind of maintenance. I wanted to know if everyone has this problem. I am connected through a router but when I get disconnected the line sync light starts flashing so I'm guessing it's a problem on Velcom's end. I also wanted to know whether this happens frequently because it's kind of annoying being disconnected every 15 minutes or so.

If the sync light is flashing it is related to your line quality, and the line belongs to Bell. I have no disconnections with Velcom. Even when they were doing maintenance (a month or so ago) I didn't lose my connection to Velcom, only Internet connectivity suffered. My connection stays on for months until I reboot the router or modem.
Velcom will send a Bell technician to check your line.

Hmm... I contacted them and they said they'd contact me in 2 days or so. It's weird because one day it happens every 10 minutes let's say and others it doesn't happen. I used to have Bell and it was fine, never had any disconnections with them. Hopefully the issue will be resolved and I won't have to change ISP

What's your modem? Several modems lets you see your line stats.

I have the modem that Velcom supplies, it says Alcatel Speedtouch home on it.

I've had similar issues with frequent disconnections. However, my DSL light remains solid. However, my router says that it is unable to get an IP from the server, even though I have a static IP. Sometimes, it takes a long time to do it.
I have a 2Wire 2700, which was awesome and I never gave me any issues. Because of these dropped connections (which started about 5 weeks ago after a major bell outage in Cooksville), I switched to a Bell SpeedStream 4200 and use it on a Bridge Mode with a Linksys router. The connection still drops, and I'm tired of spending money on modem/router/wires/filters to get a stable connection.
It is annoying, stressful and frustrating when you are logged on to the company VPN and while you are doing work, all of a sudden your connection drops.

I noticed that if I turn mpll off that my network came back. Its like there was a secret cap on the amount of mlpp that you can do before the network stops allowing you access.

All Sunday I was unable to access the dsl until I found my son had been downloading somthing and the mpll was on as always -- when I turned it off poof the net worked again

I guess we are not allowed encripted access as bell cannot deep packet inspect my evil doings with their dpi holy deep penetration iterogation technology

Erachu, your IP looks interesting.... Who are you working for?
I think what you are describing is nonsense, and I don't have such problems, and I use MLPPP always. I've been with Velcom for more than half a year and I haven't had problems at all (except for the forewarned scheduled disconnections).

just ignoring problems has ramifications

the problem went away once mlppp was disconnected ..
explain that if you can

My problem seems to be solved !!!

I put in a ticket with Velcom and they traced it down to a bad line , Whcih happens to be a bell responsibility

My line was so flaky I had less than 30 % intermintent acces and all my dsl modem lights were green ! ... ie a bad line the problem was -like it was shorting out

Once Bell fixed the line my access was rock solid , only about 3meg bit but hey Reliable ! and stable

now I'm mlppp and pppoe and what ever but it works !!
