[TSC] TSC project coming to an end April 15

This was posted on the TSC forum today by Adam Hughes. It is not an April fools joke. I IM'ed Adam and he confirmed the project is ending.

posted April 01, 2009 04:45 PM
Dear Community TSC members,

On April 15, 2009, the Community TSC distributed computing project will officially end operations.

As this chapter in the history of The Rothberg Institute comes to a close, we wanted to take the opportunity to extend a sincere note of thanks to you, our indcredibly dedicated members who have driven every aspect of this project. We also want to take a few moments to reflect on what we have accomplished and to touch on how the project's results, thanks to your committed efforts, will be leveraged by The Rothberg Institute in the future.

As most of you know, this project set out to develop a viable platform for enabling users from around the globe to use their personal computers (whether PCs, Linux or Unix boxes, etc.) to compute the interactions of small molecule drug candidates with target molecules that likely play prominent roles in Tuberous Sclerosis Complex disease pathways.
In the more than seven years that the project has been active, our members have returned results for over 150 million drug candidate-disease target tasks, utilizing over 3000 years' worth of CPU time in the process!

With the computational results available to us, we turn all of our attention toward harvesting the best possible candidates from this data set and focusing our efforts in the laboratory in order to accomplish our original goal: finding effective real-world treatments for TSC. The Rothberg Institute remains firmly committed to this objective.

As we move forward, we will maintain our list of active and past members who have committed so much time and energy to this project, and we plan to update you periodically on the progress that we're making in the lab. Your efforts have been invaluable in moving us into position to take this next important step, and we truly appreciate the contributions that you have made.

We hope that you have enjoyed participating in this project as much as we have. For all that you have done, thank you!

The Rothberg Institute Staff

That's alot of dedication and committment there that we were part of.

Although sad to see an end to yet another one of our projects, I am heartened to hear the results we dedicated ourselves & our crunchers to - are valued.

I'm pleased to have contributed to TSC.. and happy to hear the Rothberg Institute is going to stay the course with implementing ways to take those results and make effective real-world treatments from them.

Team Discovery was an integral part of this venture..

You should all feel proud for being a part of something so great that will benefit children & give them hope.

Hey, let us not hang our heads down now.

We did all we could have done to support this project and now the real hard work begins (Lab tests).

I hope that they find the cures they where looking for.
I know that no one needs it more then the kids.

God bless and thank you TD members for making this possible a little faster then if we had not participated.

Regards/ Slava

Believe that Team Discovery was one of the first TSC teams (if not the first).

Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the impressive number of tasks that were returned.

I'm glad to have contributed my small part in crunching for TSC, and I will continue to do so, until the Last WU I can get has been duly processed...

I will then shut down my Dedicated TSC Cruncher for some (Well-Deserved) Maintenance, and set it up for some Serious WCG crunching...

We Will CRUNCH ON!

Sorry to hear that the TSC project is ending. We in Team Helix went thru the same problem when the F@H group stopped Genome@Home. Glad to see that it's getting results!

All of us should be very be proud of the contribution our team made. When we started, this project was a mountain to climb and together we made it. I'll move over to WCG crunching...BUT it won't happen until 4/16. April 15th is tax day and this special day will require more than 2 but less than 8 Patron shots...it would be best for me to stay away from the computer room.

Yes. It has, old friend.

The only thing that's missing is a "Yay! We did it!" Kinda sucks.

I'd say we did one heck of a job on the TSC project. Congrats to all and hopefully down the road we'll hear our hard work did some real good.

Good timing since WCG just added the childhood cancer project. Would be a nice changeover for those who crunched TSC due to its focus on children.

I share your thoughts. Think I'll stick to helping the kids out since it seems to be one of my missions in Life.

I am also sad to see an end to another of our projects. However, I am grateful to have been part of Team Disco these past 6 years.

As one door in life is closed, another one will open to take its place. In my case, the doors of UD and TSC have now been closed. But, the door of WCG is now wide open, and inviting me inside. Like the UD client before, WCG has projects that focus on fighting cancer in both adults, and children. It is a natural move for me, as I have always been interested in finding a cure for cancer.

Over the next few days, I will be turning off the TSC Client on my systems, and moving them over to the WCG client. I look forward to the work that my systems can perform to aid the team of people at World Community Grid in the fight against Cancer.

CRUNCH ON!
