I'm looking to do an Ethernet extension over fiber. Distance about 1500'. This will be how we get Internet so bandwidth usage will probably not exceed 2Mbps. (It goes to a tower to receive from our WISP). And budget is definitely more important than buying something "enterprise" grade.
What connectors should I use (e.g. SC, ST)? What wavelength fiber should I use (62.5, 125)? How many spare fibers should I buy?
Any opinions on media converters? I took a quick stab and found a couple of lower-end units: »www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec_v2.···=4772824 »www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec_v2.···=4716732
The far end will be solar powered so it would be nice to find something that ran on 24VDC. -- Alltel EVDO; Linux. Terrific wife & kids; live on a farm by Big Creek. Software & network consultant. I ride a Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom. |
