Re: Most places make you pay for your own

I work for a major retailer at their HQ and telecommute every other day for the last year. I pay for my own broadband and don't mind, since I consider it a perk not having to spend 90 minutes every day in traffic (more in the winter obviously). I have uverse and pay $35 for the access which compared to the gas, wear and tear on the car, my sanity and the extra time I get to spend with my kids is actually a very small price to pay. My company purchased a laptop for me though in order to do this. It definitely makes my family life happier, but I've noticed that I work more efficiently (no disruptions) and longer (too tempting just to answer a couple of emails after dinner) when I am at home. The temptation to slack off is there too obviously, but not a concern for me. I don't think working full time from home would be a good thing though, because the 'social/inter-personal' aspect of your work life does get lost.

I work from home sometimes but my broadband is not paid for.

The only things they'll pay for are blackberry and EvDO cards/service. I'm not going to telecommute using an EvDO card. I'd rather use my 30Mbps DOCSIS3 connection.
