A couple years ago I planted a packet of zucchini seeds(25), I had 20 plants that issued forth vast quantities of cucurbita pepo from June until October. I had a table in front of the house with a FREE sign. I still had more. Stopped watering in August and it rained. I even brought some to the range with my .22 rife, trying to exercise the green demons. I learned my lesson and only plant a few now. I prefer yellow summer squash.
Zucchini: Summer's Abundant Treasure by Roberta Roberti Right around the time -- about late June -- when the days start getting longer and lazier and the aroma of grass seems to linger in the air, something happens in zucchini patches everywhere. Beautiful golden flowers start budding, heralding the birth of new, beautiful zucchini. Copious amounts of zucchini. Come summertime, they appear in abundance, much to the bewilderment of many home farmers. And perpetuating this universal truth is the fact that August 8th is Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day. Yes, that's the day you are encouraged to unload all that wonderful squash you don't know what to do with onto your unsuspecting next-doors. |

| reply to Dominokat Zucchini is like a weed. In NE everyplace I've worked (MA, NH) someone(s) has brought in zucchini to give away. All friends and relatives who have planted it have given it to everyone they know, even after keeping a massive quantity for themselves. If you're looking for flowers for your flower box find an open field and dig up some black-eyed susans. |

Also, don't plant too many seeds. |

Zucchini has a unique place in the vegetarian/vegan community, in that it is the one green edible that you just can't convince anyone to take after the middle of August...
I make it into pickles, pressure can it, freeze it, and leave it out to compost back into the garden, but the stuff is unending. And... it comes up wild now, to boot. -- "Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for thou art crispy and good with catsup." |

I saw this nice garden at the fahm today, freshly spread with fertilizer. There are tons (literally) of the stuff, free for the taking, but I was on my bicycle. Two pocketfuls didn't seem like a great idea. I'd kinda like to keep it out of the sedan too, I'll chat up a buddy with a pick-up. |

I am really getting things together!
Like Cape's picture, I have my hangers and pots ready to be planted.
My new front window boxes are painted and put up, ready to be planted.
I am still digging clay soil out from the front of my house, so I can replace it with good planting soil. (I was stalled because I broke the wheel barrow and had to get a new one) I am using the dirt to fill in low spots.
Today, my neighbor came and cut down two trees, and a branch for me. He also took away my falling TV antennae....
My lawn is raked.
I've hired a company to tend the lawn. Only with pesticide, loam, seeding, pH testing, and lawn aeration.
Mowing, raking, etc. Are still my chore! My mower is getting a compleat tune up.
Things are coming along very nicely here.
More pics later... the battery died as I was taking some pics. -- "I'd rather be a live chicken, then a dead hero. " |

| This last wee was supposed to be a "wash out" with rain expected nearly every day, or at least some part of the day. But alas, yesterday and today where beautiful and warm
My lawn took off like mad when it started raining. I still haven't got my own mower back from getting tuned up and such. I have to hire someone to do it for me before it got out of hand. |

| I planted a couple tomato plants in a planter I wasn't using. So at least I can get fresh tomatoes this summer! (Yummmm) I've planted some grass seeds in areas I filled from my digging the area in front of my house.
My mom and I are shopping for plants to fill my window boxes on Saturday. |
