Appreciate the suggestion, but the Dell was a Quad.
Quad deals are what has been doing the heavy lifting lately.

I kind of wonder is a PS3 is a better value for a non-LINUX OP?
The thing is, I've never owned a PS3, so I don't know about the ability to report stats to the Foldinator Project?

EDIT: Looks like it can run LINUX
Hmm, ... what does it come with ...?
»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3

»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStatio···software
It does not really seem to articulate the software it comes with?

said by »ps3.qj.net/Its-Official-The-PS3-···id/40039 :

English Translation:
The PS3 will come standard with a functional Linux Operating System as well as compilers and other tools. This will give a vast playground to all the programmers on the PS3. This means that the PS3 will support all USB drives. Even back in the PlayStation generation, there were a lot of creations by homebrew developers. On the PS3, this will be much more.
said by »www.ibm.com/developerworks/power···_CMP=ART :

Conclusion

While you can't program the PS3 directly, its support for third-party operating systems allows you to install Linux on your PS3. Installing Linux on the PS3 takes a little bit of effort, but in the end you get a low-cost, fully working Cell Broadband Engine processor. Future articles in this series go in depth into programming the Cell BE and extracting every ounce of speed that you can from the SPEs.
My Conclusion:
Looks to create a dual boot system and that is not what we need. Looks like a dead end.

Agree, PS3 is not a good way to go. The power consumption alone is enough kill that. Among other issues that make it not feasible for Folding only systems.

The Dell Quads are the best for new OPs coming in.

Now, for someone with a bit of *nix knowledge, and patience, the GPU client might be worth a try. Some of the newer cards are getting 6000-7000 PPD now.

I don't know if I can vote on this yet, but I say yes as well if so.

Also: In the future I pledge my help in hunting down a good deal on a system or parts of a system when needs be, I can definitely help on that!

For instance, look at this site for deals:

I know of several other sites.

Anything I can do to help until I can get our three extra computers set up here for folding I want to do.
