Which design?

Which design?
said by ChrisLawlor :

Siemens Gigaset SE567 router/DSL modem from Frontier. Is there any way I can configure that router to be used with the cable modem?

I've tried setting the LAN/WAN port to WAN, and tried all of the connection modes (Bridged, Bridged/IP, etc). I was able to connect to the router's admin from both a wired and wireless connection, and the router would get an IP address on the WAN side from Comcast, but there was no internet connectivity on the LAN side.

The Siemens apparently has a custom Frontier firmware installed, so some settings may not be in the 'right' places, but I think that I can find things provided that they are still actually enabled / available.
The Siemens Gigaset SE567 is a ADSL2+ Modem first and it also has a integrated Router w/ a 4 port Ethernet Switch plus Wireless added to it ("4 in 1" device). As far as I know the top design does not have a Ethernet WAN port so it cannot be used as a E2E standalone Router as normally the internal Router can only be used with ADSL Modem. However there appears to be a alternative design with the LAN port 4 wired as a switchable WAN port (and marked LAN/WAN) and that design might work. You would need to have NAPT enable so it can translate the Comcast DHCP supplied IP into Private IPs for the LAN connections (wired or wireless). Plus you may need to enter manual DNS IPs into the the SE567 DHCP server page. I suggest using 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 for that. However, if you have the other design without the switchable LAN/WAN port, then it likely would not work, so with you getting an IP on the WAN from Comcast, it does sound like the second design which you should be able to get that to work.

Thanks for the reply! It is the bottom design with the LAN/WAN port. I'll have to try this again next time I visit. I'll post the results in case anyone else would like to do the same thing.

I am somewhat new to the networking world but here's my situation.
I am running an Intel-based iMac with the se567 that I purchased on ebay.
Had litle trouble setting up, but my internet browsing has slowed considerably. I have the ethernet running from port 1 to the computer. Port 2 connects to base of 470ip gigaset handset. Nothing else connected. I had the network automatically set up through my system preferences.

Is there something I can do to get my browsing speed back up again?

Thanks,

David
