Not sure if this belongs in the Windows forums, but my Dell XP Inspiron 5150 laptop crapped out on me and I now have a Dell XPS M1530 Vista 32bit laptop with an Alps touchpad.
Will a Synaptics touchpad driver work with an Alps touchpad?
My Alps touchpad periodically freezes, or becomes hard to use, for about 5 seconds. This freezing happens a couple of times an hour and is rather annoying.
I have googled this freezing issue and it appears it has been a common issue for over a year, so Dell doesn't seem to be able to fix the problem. Reinstalling the Alps driver does not fix the problem. Process Monitor doesn't show anything unusual occurring when the mouse freezes. I have indexing disabled and have tried increasing the touchpad's CPU Process Priority to Real Time with no improvement.
The older Dell M1330 model comes with a Synaptics touchpad. Some folks claim a Synaptics driver will work on a M1530 with an Alps touchpad.
The Synaptics drivers are located here. »www.synaptics.com/support/drivers
Or I could try the Dell M1330 driver which looks to be an older version. »support.dell.com/support/downloa···d=238839 |
