There are no pom poms in baseball. Save it for the Lakers.

The season starts in 12 hours for the Mets. It's sad that I have Looper blowing the save on opening day a few years ago in Cincinnati fresh in my mind. That game set the tone for the whole season. Cincinnati here we come!

Yeah, part of their 0-5 start. Joe Randa had his 15 minutes in the spotlight.

You know what? Fuck rain.

Met opener at Cincy delayed until 1:40PM as of now. Who knows if they get to play at all in that cold rain. I wanted to spend my lunch hour watching the first three innings, and now I have no idea how to schedule my time.

Those fuckin umps decided that it wasnt raining and started 20 minutes before the new scheduled time. That should be illegal. I missed 1st pitch.

Well, it looks like Newsday has chosen their favorite team, six of the last seven baseball related back covers have been about the Yankees or their stadium.

The NY Daily News is no better.

Nothing like sitting next to rich Mets fans on the 7 express talk about what types of gourmet foods they want to eat at Shea.

Re: Official NY Baseball Thread® - 2009 Season

You know what? I frickin LOVE the fact that they have a tremendous variety. I just spent the past 40 min walking around checking it all out. Center field rocks the BBQ ribs and pulled pork. World's Fare Market has antipasto, sushi, quesadillas, good soups, chili, and plenty more. They got a seafood place that does po boys. Prices are actually not much different than a Manhattan diner. I know it won't be cheap, but if I want to be cheap, Ill bring my own sandwich. They did food right at this place.

In other news... Three pitches. THREE FUCKING PITCHES. Hello season of mediocrity.

Re: Official NY Baseball Thread® - 2009 Season

I'll tell ya - It ain't easy being a Mets fan. Amid all of the Mets bullpen problems over the last couple of seasons, two of the guys who were exiled come in and sit the Mets down without so much as a whimper in the final two innings of the first game at the new park. Fucking embarrassing.

Re: Official NY Baseball Thread® - 2009 Season

Yea Ollie is going and Manuel wants to start Sheff in right field. Wrong time to do that since Ollie is a flyball pitcher. I am going to the game Thursday and Saturday... At least I can call Saturday Opening Day since it is the first day game

You CANNOT make up how piss poor the pitching and catching has been for the Padres has been in the bottom of the 7th! The "Major League" Indians were better than this in the first part of the year!

I saw that. I've been in many a bar league softball game that was played a lot better than that.
And we stunk.

OT
I just read that Mark Fidrych was found dead yesterday. I don't know how old you guys were in 1976 but if you were able to follow baseball you loved The Bird.
He was a rare find and unfortunately didn't last long enough.
I am not a big fan of pitch counts but in his 1st season Mark pitched 24 complete games. By comparison Johan Santana has a total of nine. It's no wonder he developed shoulder problems.

But besides his ability he was fun to watch and good for baseball.
RIP Mark and thanks.

I remember him!

He had like ONE good season, and then he was done..
It was a RIOT to watch him pitch, fix the mound, and talk to himself..

I wonder if Manuel is going to let Castillo play Saturday. He actually looks healthy and is playing well. I don't want to see Cora!

Give it a month or so. Detroit didn't eat so much of his money for no reason. He is poison wherever he goes. He got his share of boos before he hit #500.
