I was thinking the same thing actually. I actually want to try finding a way to put a cubs hat/logo on the goose island goose!

Heh, obviously he was going for the ball and missed... but the picture is just hilarious taken out of context.

Nice long game with a high scoring affair. Fukudome went 4 for 5, that should be a confidence boost for him and Piniella

Fukudome actually looked like he did in the first half of the year last year tonight. I'm not gonna get my hopes up too high, but I hope he can build on this game.

Yeah this Gregg guy hasn't had a great start. I really don't want to sit through another season of blown saves.

Starting to miss Wood. Might be premature but the first impression of Gregg will linger throughout the season

Well that was a short leach. Marmol was put in to get the save and what a save that was. Striking out Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder

Anybody hear anything about Gregg being demoted from the stopper role, or is Piniella giving Gregg a rest?

I think he's just giving him a night off. Marmol was awesome.

Depending on the next couple Gregg outings, I'm good with Marmol closing. Nice game tonight!

Who comes in the 7th or 8th with runners on in A close game...?!?... He does that job so well, I can understand why Lou wants him to be the set up guy... Than again we need someone to close out...

Know what I don't understand, why were they, the Cubs management, is such a hurry to let Wood go...?... I know they would have had to pay him but how much less is Gregg...?...I know Wood wasn't the greatest but we/you knew what you had plus great in the club house... Sometimes $$$ don't make sense in pro sports...

Yes, nice game tonight ...

Lets just hope Gregg comes around. It's awfully early to condemn him I guess.

Agree with ya about Wood as well.

I can sort of understand getting rid of Wood. He's a lot more money for basically the same statistics. I believe he blew 8 or 9 saves last year as well. I won't deny that Wood's "stuff" is way better than Gregg's though. I think Gregg will come around and do just fine.

You got a point there. What if Marmol was their regular stopper? We would be bitching and moaning about how the setup man can't hold a game.

I'm just glad he didn't get nervous and start walking people because he was trying too hard to show Piniella that he is the right man for the closer job.

And it's not like Gregg has no experience in getting the save.

They were battling for the closer spot in spring training. I remember hearing Lou on the radio when he gave the job to gregg b/c he liked what he saw. I didn't see any spring training games so I don't know who he faced.

I just hope he won't stick with him too long if he keeps blowing it.

It was sweet to come right back at them in the 9th inning from behind like they did to us.

Here are Kerry's stats for last year... Not great but not bad - blew 6 but the k to walks ratio was pretty good, but for a 9th inning pitcher these are not as important as for a set up guy... Just you knew what you had with Kerry... Maybe Gregg will come thru, I'm sure he has put a lot of pressure on himself to do well right a way,,, I agree the season just started lets good him a chance,,,

I'm really more concerned with these other middle inning guys, these walks have to be driving Lou 'NUTS',,, As me...;) ...

Well since nobody else wanted to say it I will.

Good thing Soriano was batting lead off for the Cubs.

He only bats lead off once a game folks.

Re: 2009 Chicago Cubs Regular Season

Great catch and most likely saved the game...

Still Bradley can't make it a week without getting hurt...

Gregg reminds me of a few closers we have had the last few years... Why can't we get a 1,2,3, ninth... Two outs game is over right, NO... HR, no big deal with a 4 run lead, just throwing the ball over to get the 3rd out... Well now two runners on and Cecil Jr. up and one swing of the bat and we're in extra innings...

I remember my father before he passed would turn off the TV in the 9th, he couldn't take it... I'm almost getting there myself... ...

lol, no kidding, can you imagine the shape he would be in if he had a TO like work ethic?

That said, I've always said I don't give a rats ass about ARam's "laziness". Perform at the plate and in the field better than the majority of players in the league and it's all good with me. I don't buy the "cancer to the team" BS, never have.

Re: 2009 Chicago Cubs Regular Season

Probably true about the work ethic.

Also, I always said I got no problems with the guys production at the plate. He had some "laziness" incidents several years ago that irritated me. Yesterday Soriano had one where somebody hit one by the line and he was just sort of loafing his way out to get it. I still like Soriano, just get irritated when he doesn't hustle at one of the 7 or 8 balls he has to field in a game. Ordinarily I wouldn't buy the "caner to the team" stuff either, but most of the time it originates from their own teammates. If it's just one, not a big deal. If it's a chorus then I have to think there is an issue there. To Ramirez's credit, I don't recall anybody on his team really calling him out so I know he's a pretty good teammate.

CHICAGO -- Sunday night's game between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals was postponed because of inclement weather, which will give Lou Piniella some time to sort out his bullpen.

The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader July 12 during the Cardinals' only other trip to Wrigley Field. It will be a separate admission doubleheader, with the first game to start at 12:05 p.m. CT and the second at 7:05 p.m. CT.

Why is it that only rescheduled Cubs-Cards series games are now pay twice, Day-Night doubleheaders at Wrigley???

And yes, I attended the first one that ever occured at Wrigley, both games.

You know its all about the mighty $$$$. Nothing sells like an I55 series and get double the money
I'd laugh if it bites them in the ass if it rains either all day or all night on July 12th

Re: 2009 Chicago Cubs Regular Season

It's not double the money. It's making up for lost revenue from yesterday. I have no problem with it. The bills have to be paid and one way is asses in the seats.
Why should anybody get to see two games for the price of one?
