1 edit | Is a RCA DCM425 modem an upgrade over a 5120? (D3 tier)
I went to a comcast service center for a new modem to replace my 5120 for my new 22/5 tier and they gave me a DCM425? which I'm seeing after a search is a pretty old/cheap modem. Saw used for $12.50 at amazon  This is a step back or across from the 5120 right? I'm gonna take it back for another tomorrow but can someone tell me what to ask for so this doesn't happen again.

The 22/5 is a DOCSIS 3.0 tier and should have a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. They should be giving you a SB6120.

For the most part, as long as they meet specs, they are pretty much the same. The main differences are typically the tech info the user can see. |

I'll ask for a 6120 tomorrow. I don't know why she gave me this one as an updaded one? 
No sense paying 3 bucks a month for this one, that's for sure. |

Gary, IN | Funny thing is I was trying to tell her about a 6120 and she kinda blew me off and asked another girl which told her the 425 was the one for my speed tier. I'm going to make sure I get a 6120 when I go back. |

Docsis 3 modems are NOT heavily stocked in service centers. They may not hand them out over the counter and may require a tech visit. As far as the RCA modem, they are junk. Motorola is the best when it comes to cable modems. The 5120 is my fav non D3 modem. |

They shouldn't push D3 unless the C.P.E. is there even if the Ultra tier will function on a D2 modem
And what is ironic, it is in their own best interest, and for the greater good of their network (and the subs that use it) that they supply D3 modems to everyone that subscribes to Ultra.. |

Just got back from comcast, didn't have any 6120's but they gave me a Cisco dcp3000 modem which seems to be working pretty good from this speedtest
