Re: [netopia] Multicast Settings - Netopia 3347 -Problem solved!

Hello, again.

My question can be ignored.

Somehow, by dumb luck, I've gotten everything to work.

Still wish I could find out what I should have done as I may have done more configuring than necessary.

[netopia] Multicast Settings - Netopia 3347

Hi --

Once again, trying to keep my boss happy.

He has signed up for a subscription service (GXTRA) that should enable him to watch UGA sports events online. There is no program to install; he just goes to the site, enters his user name/password, and clicks on whatever event is currently being broadcast. Something must not be fully configured as he could not see the broadcast.

This is not an area of familiarity for me and the FAQs at the site are very general and say such things as to "configure the firewall" without mentioning any port numbers and "contact the router manufacturer."

The keyword seems to be multicast. I searched for that and read somewhere that port 8080 must be open in the firewall, so I have allowed that for both TCP and UDP in the Vista Windows Firewall.

Also read that IGMP Forwarding must be enabled and have checked the entry for that in the router configuration. (Do I need to do a pinhole as well?) There are other options at the IGMP configuration window (RIP Send Mode and RIP Receive Mode, Proxy ARP and Static Client Address Translation) and I've no idea what to select or enter for these.

Can anyone help or route me to more detailed instructions?

Thanks. (Again!)
