·AT&T DSL Service
| This past weekend, I noticed what seemed to be much slower refresh rates for my web pages. I had just made the upgrade to FF 3.5. In trying to find out what was happening , I did a speed test and found, like you, that I was at 1324kbps/640kbps when I am supposed to have Elite speeds.
I tried repeated tests using Safari and Camino, all with the same results. I contacted AT&T tech support and went through the usual items (router reset, unplug, etc.), which I had already done myself. I was given a case number and told that someone would call in an hour.
As I was composing an IM to Mr.Fixit to request a line check, I get a call from an AT&T tech rep who reviews the whole scenario again. Then she says, "Oh, OK, I see where the problem is, it is on our end, let me call someone to reset it for you." In a minute or two, she comes back online and asks me to retest the speed. I do and now I am back at 5249/750 as was normal before.
When I asked her what happened she said, "Oh it was just reset back to the lower tier level." Since I hadn't made any service changes, I asked her why did it happen. Her reply was "We don't know, sometimes it just does that!" I was speechless!
Now I wonder how many other folks that could be happening to as well? Moral of the story for me is to check my speeds more frequently so as not to pay for what I am not getting. |
