| How do I get my 3347 out of this idiot-proof mode?
I have a Netopia 3347 (with a bad wireless chip--more on that later) that I used when I had business-class DSL Direct Lite. On that account I had a bellsouth.net username and I received the full Netopia interface. I canceled that account a while back and put the 3347 into storage. The wireless chip on it died and it was useless to me without wireless. However, I have a wireless access point up and running and so I'm using the 3347 again. I did a total reset on it and entered my username. My home DSL account has an @att.net username. Now I have this dumbed-down interface, similar to the single-port Mototrola/Netopia products. Based on what I've read, it seems the 3347 goes to this idiotic system when it's fed an @att.net username on initial setup and that it's damn near impossible to get the original interface back.
What do I need to do?
Should I get a new 3347 WITHOUT the idiot interface and allow it to do its first authentication with an @bellsouth.net username? (I have one I can use...)
Thanks! -- MySpace Facebook: iCarl@att.net |

| I loaned my 3347NWG-006 out a long while back to a fellow and he had a new account with an att.net domain after his user name. It had the Netopia residential GUI (RBAN mode) after I set it up for him. I asked here on the forum how to get the old BellSouth GUI back and some members gave me some information to try. My lazy butt still has not went to get my Netopia back and the guy is not rushing me about it because he is getting free use of my Netopia. I have not had a chance to try out any of the ideas people gave me yet.
I had a crazy idea I was going to try. Do the long reset to factory defaults by holding the reset button until the Power LED turns red two times. Set it up with a fake user name like admin@bellsouth.net and a fake password like admin. If it has the BellSouth GUI after this then just change the login user name and password to reflect your att.net login information.
It might work.
I did something kind of like this with my Westell 6100 except backwards. I wanted the modem to be in RBAN mode instead of BellSouth mode because I wanted to use the PPPoA VC-Mux and it doesn't have this option in BellSouth mode. I hard reset it and set it up with a fake user name like admin@isp.net and a fake password like admin. Then I went to easy login and changed it to my BellSouth login information. It stayed in RBAN mode even with my BellSouth login information.

| Thanks for the advice.
I tried the reset + @bellsouth.net login method and got nowhere. I think I'll do longer resets tomorrow morning though and see if that helps.
Ah, funny you mention the 6100. I have a 6100 from when they first came out that I also use with an att.net login from time to time. It had been updated to the newer firmware (like what your screenshot shows) and I hate the newer firmware. I was able to find a copy of the original firmware (3.00.87 I think) and flash it...it wouldn't work with my @att.net login after the flash. I had to use an @bellsouth.net login then change it to @att.net (which enabled PPPoA )...has the FastAccess logos and everything now! -- MySpace Facebook: iCarl@att.net |

1 edit | I will look around and see if I can find that thread where people gave me some ideas about getting the old BellSouth GUI back on a Netopia 3347NWG-006 after using it with an att.net login.
I like the older BellSouth GUI like the Westell 2100/2200 and early Westell 6100 had. The Netopia 2241N-006 had about the same GUI too. I do like the newer firmware though just not the new GUI that comes with it.
I like the Netopia BellSouth Business GUI the best. |

1 edit | reply to Carl Carl which 3347 do you have that is doing this?
Is it a Netopia 3347NWG-006 or a Motorola Netopia 3347-02-1006?
Firmware conversion utility for the Motorola Netopia 3347-02-1006 stuck in RBAN mode and the latest firmware for the Motorola Netopia 3347-02-1006.

Carl posted the above DSL statistics in this thread »think i could support 3 meg with these readings? earlier today.
If this is the same 3347 he is having problems with then it is the Motorola Netopia 3347-02-1006 and he is running the older firmware that had problems with the username@att.net login. |

| reply to Carl AAH! IT'S FIXED! Using the tools that Airwolf7 posted, I was able to get my 3347 out of that other mode! Now I have the original firmware with every option. Thanks so much for the help (to everyone that replied.) I'll be keeping that firmware utility around for future use!

| Glad you got it fixed.
For some reason at first I thought you had a 3347NWG-006 instead of a 3347-02-1006. I don't know why I had that idea stuck in my head for. If I knew it was the 3347-02-1006 I would have posted the firmware conversion utility first. I just happened to stumble upon your earlier reply where you posted your DSL statistics and it showed you had the 3347-02-1006 with the older firmware. |

| reply to Carl Sorry to jump on the end of a thread like this, but I have a 3347NWG-006 that I am using as a switch and WAP...not as a dsl modem. It came from a biz line, but still has what I deem some less than useful firmware.
Using it for wireless is a huge pain in the 4$$. Every time I try to change a setting I have to put in a new WPA key or it won't save the changes and for some reason my Wii of all things won't connect to its wireless at all.
Does anyone know of a firmware I could flash to this to make it more user friendly than the bellsouth biz one? |

| reply to Carl as a tier2 rep for at&t here is the way to revert the firmware from residential class Firmware back to the business class stuff with all the Perks
As a result of the changes to the registration process in the AT&T SE Region, A Motorola/Netopia 3347-NWG modem that is running firmware 7.6.1r6 will go into "RBAN" mode. RBAN mode is a residential interface that lacks business class features such as VPN termination, SPI Firewall, ability to do IP Maps, Syslog and many other options. A Motorola/Netopia 3347-NWG modem running 7.6.1r6 firmware will default to RBAN mode when the attreg@att.net user name is entered into the e-mail address field of the Customer information screen during the initial setup of the modem.
NOTE: The RBAN mode will appear any time a non @bellsouth.net Member ID is entered and is used to attempt to authenticate on the network.
Here is an example of what the RBAN interface looks like:
Here is an example of what the AT&T interface should look like:
To update the interface of the Motorola/Netopia 3347-NWG in order to utilize the AT&T interface, do the following:
Have the customer surf to »www.att-training.net/att_SkuConv_705.exe. IMPORTANT: For the URL in step 3, the letters "S" and "C" need to be typed in as capital letters.
save the file to their desktop when prompted to do so.
NOTE: This utility will restore the Motorola/Netopia 3347-NWG modem to its original factory state and any configuration changes to the modem will be lost.
double-click on the file named att_SkuConv_705.exe.
Click the Next button. Click the Accept button. Click the Next button. Click the Finish button.
hope this helps |
